Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Imagine a classroom filled with curious , enthusiastic, and global minded first graders eager to learn and read. In our dual language classroom my students are immersed in the Spanish language. My students spend half of the day in Spanish and the other half in English. In total I have 44 students and half of them speak mostly English at home. Yet, they come into my classroom eager and ready to learn Spanish.

It is truly wonderful to see students, whose first language is English, that are able to read, speak and write in a second language.

I help my students understand the importance of their bilingualism and biliteracy. It amazes me how much their young minds are able to grow in just a few months. They are becoming lifelong readers in Spanish!

My Project

My students are in need of quality headphones, fit for first graders, to use with their devices in class. For safety, each child needs their own headphone and stylus pen. They will keep them in class for the remainder of the year. I plan to use them every year so that students always have their own headphones and pen for their devices.

Our students use devices daily through reading apps, math games, and their classroom assignments!

Having headphones will help my students during their assignments, centers, and tests by helping them focus and listen clearly. Sometimes it hard for them to hear their own tablet when other classmates' tablets are also on. Quality headphones will last a long time for future students in our class!

Writing on a tablet will be much easier and helpful with a stylus pen. Students will be able to use them as a pencil for their virtual assignments. Instead of using their fingers to draw and write, they will have their own stylus pen to grip and write on their devices and on our classroom smartboard. Having their own stylus pen limits contact with other classmates' materials. Many of our students spent many months without using a pencil properly. Stylus pens will allow them to use their fine motor skills on their devices every day!
