My Students

I teach 12 students in a high school special education classroom. My students are ages 15-20. I work with the same students for the entire school day. We work on all subject areas as well as vocational skills and life skills. I work with students who are on the autism spectrum, have emotional disorders, or have learning and intellectual disabilities.

The diversity in my classroom is what makes me excited to go to work every day.

I work with students of all different abilities and every student is unique. This diversity has allowed my students to learn from one another and it brings about new possibilities and ideas every day. My goal is to help them become more independent and work on getting a successful job after graduation.

My Project

Thankfully, my school has many programs that the students are able to use to improve their academics. However, being the 21st century, many of these programs are online. Programs such as RAZ kids, Achieve 3000, Study Island, sign language apps and audiobooks would be incredibly useful for my students. Having this technology allows students with varying abilities to get the individualized modifications they need while improving their skills. Having a charging cart will help to teach students the responsibility of caring for electronic devices. It will also be helpful for storage and transportation around the school building as needed.

Having these 3 iPads will allow my students to improve their independent study skills, work toward their goals, and have fun sharing their results with their classmates.

Being able to give my students every day access to these digital programs can make a major difference in their progress and achievement.
