My Students

Worrying about food, money, transportation, and clothing are adult worries, yet many of the students at my school face these "grown-up" problems each day. In spite of the challenges they face, they constantly rise to the occasion and frequently blow me away with their abilities to learn.

My students come from a wide variety of backgrounds.

Some have, and some do not. It is my job to level their playing field so that all have a chance to be successful. Through hands-on, exciting, and active assessment, all students in my third grade, inner-city classroom prove themselves time and time again. Although they face many obstacles, it is my job to help them overcome those difficulties and be prepared to face the world they enter. My district has done a GREAT job equipping my room with technology, but I want to take my students a step further. They deserve every opportunity that is available to them.

My Project

I am requesting an iPad 2 because of the WEALTH of learning opportunities it provides. There are countless applications that I can use to enhance instruction in my classroom. I plan to attach the iPad to the interactive white board in my classroom and use the applications on a a daily/hourly basis. I plan to use Apps such as Angry Birds to teach Force and Motion. I will use countless math apps to teach fractions, regrouping, and multiplication. Students are entering a world that is full of technology in every aspect, but our classroom are struggling. As I said above, my district has done an amazing job providing our classrooms with technology, yet it can only take us so far due to budget constraints. I have become a district technology trainer and hope to use that position to share my use of the iPad 2 with teachers across our district in hopes of influencing its use throughout schools in our area. This project would be FAR reaching as it hopefully spreads throughout multiple schools!

I believe in dreaming big and going after those dreams.

This iPad is indeed a big dream for me and my students. I am sending it out there and waiting on your generosity to meet me half way! Help me make this dream a reality in my classroom as I seek to take my students fully into the 21st century classroom!
