21st Century Classroom

My Students

Our school will be converted to a 21st Century school next year. We are not at our current site due to some environmental reasons. We will be moving back next year and creating new classroom environments. The lap desks, couch, and dorm chair will help us get started now.

My students come from low socio-economic families.

All eat breakfast in the classroom and have free lunch. Many have difficulty focusing and sitting in a desk. The lap desks, couch, and dorm chair will help with this. My students are kind and caring and deserve to have a learning environment that is safe and comfortable. They come to school each day with so much baggage and trauma. I want to make sure my classroom is the one place they feel comfortable and welcomed. Our school is working hard to teach these students the skills they need to be successful in the 21st Century, but many have a lot of obstacles facing them. The more I can do to make their lives easier each day, the better. I want them to learn in the way they learn the best. I want them to love coming to school and to my classroom. I want them to be engaged and inspired no matter what is going on at home. Creating a 21st Century classroom with the lap desk, couch, and dorm chair will help with these goals.

My Project

Students will use the lap desks, couch, and dorm chair to have a comfortable and modern learning environment. Not every kid can focus or work efficiently at a desk. Some need space, a way to fidget, or a more comfortable place to sit than a plastic chair. The lap desks, couch, and dorm chair are going to help transform our learning space into an environment where kids can choose where they want to learn based on how they learn best. We are designing a 21st Century classroom as a project, and these are some items the class feels would help them in school. They will learn to manage themselves and make choices that best help them learn. When the students found out about this project, their faces lit up, and one even said, "I love school now."

The lap desk, couch, and dorm chair will benefit my students because they will feel empowered, engaged, and comfortable learning in my classroom.

They will feel that we work together to create a classroom that they learn best in each day. I want to kick off the 21st Century classroom as soon as possible so my students' learning will improve immediately. Research shows students in 21st Century classrooms improve behaviorally and engagement increases, which helps students be more successful.
