Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from a working class neighborhood with a very diverse range of home structures: nuclear, single parent, multiple-family, foster, migrant, and military to name a few.

With such diversity, it is to be expected that each student is going to have a very divergent range of personal, social, emotional, and educational needs when compared to schools that serve a more homogeneous population.

With the start of the new year I am very excited to get to know my students and to learn about their interests in effort to best support them.

My Project

I am a brand new teacher, who just finished college in two years. I come from a family of educators and am dedicated to improving our educational system. I am a third generation sixth grade teacher and I am in need of the basics to promote an engaging learning environment. I am requesting dry erase clipboards with markers to help facilitate student engagement and checking for understanding, specifically in the area of math. When students are able to show what they know and receive instant feedback they tend to be more focused and attentive to the learning process. In addition, I am also requesting headphones with storage and a green pop-up tent to serve as a green screen room. It is my hope that these resources will help to provide the basics in effort to incorporate 21st century opportunities, such as creating video reports with green screen technology like Flipgrid. Students need engaging project based learning opportunities and I am hopeful that then resources will support that as well. I am also requesting some basic supplies such as mechanical pencils to assist with classroom management and procedures. In addition I hope to incorporate some flexible seating options. I have a couch and I am requesting a gamer chair because I think the boys will think it's cool. Perhaps it will serve as a means to support struggling students as an incentive as well. Lastly, I am requesting a Raspberry Pi Complete set up to provide students with computer engineering opportunities to help them become college and career ready. Thank you for your consideration!
