Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

NHS is a public high school within the Houston Independent School District. NHS serves a low-income neighborhood less than 2 miles from downtown, Houston where 90% of the students are classified as economically disadvantaged and 68% at-risk.

87% of our students are Hispanic/ 12% are African-American Black.

NHS houses a comprehensive College/Career Center that offers assistance with many activities including comparing colleges, SAT/ACT registration, college applications and student resumes. The College Center also promotes summer enrichment programs and assists students with applications and logistics.

NHS offers its students a safe environment in which they can grow intellectually and be prepared to enter the 21st Century adult world as informed citizens.

My Project

The requested materials will be distributed to college bound seniors. All students receiving a goody bag have applied to either a 2 year or 4 year university/college, completed financial aid applications, completed scholarship applications, and all other requirements required by their intended institutions. The student who attend NHS are low-income and as a result have over come many challenges to become a high school graduate. The graduates will greatly appreciate starting their post-secondary education off with supplies to get them started.

This gift will be seen as a token of encouragement for all their hard work.

In addition, will serve as a marker of a college-bound culture on our campus.
