I teach 12th grade History College Prep at a small under funded school. The majority of our students are from low income families.

Our school has been hit particularly hard by the recent budget cuts in the New York school system. There are no funds to purchase additional technology supports. Last year we began recording oral histories in conjunction with neighborhood/community organizations. We used a free web service that is no longer free and cannot meet our needs.

We need audio recording equipment that is compatible with PC computers. With this equipment our students will record, edit, and preserve oral histories of people who have lived in their own neighborhoods as well as neighborhoods near our school. This will give our students a chance to act as professional historians. Students will use the oral histories they record by editing them into an audio/photograph slide show. The slide shows will be put on the web and will be presented at our school's presentation night.

Your help will ensure that my students will benefit from using technology that is presently unavailable to us for years to come.
