This is my first year teaching, and I'm teaching first grade! First grade is mainly focused on literacy. Having bookshelves, books, and a place to read will keep reading fun and enjoyable. Having these supplies will help my first graders love reading, and improve their fluency throughout the year.
My students are entering their first year of full day school, and it's tough for them to adjust.
They are the sweetest children who seem to love you no matter how the day goes--writing notes, giving hugs, and thinking I'm the best thing that happened to them.
The school is very friendly and focused on helping children who may start off slower or come from harder situations. We are sensitive to all situations and do our best to accommodate for every student.
We recognize diversity in our students and how we as teachers and leaders in their life have a big impact. We all hope to be a positive influence in all of our students' lives.
My Project
With the supplies I am asking for, the students in my classroom will be able to read at their own reading level. This is very important so the children don't get discouraged by reading books that are too hard, or bored by reading books that are too easy.
Not only are the books important, but every reader needs somewhere fun to read once in a while. The bean bags I requested for them are just the right size and will make reading more exciting for them.
In these early grades, it is important for them to learn sight words (words that can't be sounded out), and with the new game they can become more fluent. This helps them become more confident in their reading, which makes reading more fun. The more fluent they are, the more they learn.Reading is a foundation for all learning, and with these resources my students will have more of a positive attitude towards reading-- which can make all the difference in their lives.
