Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach first grade to 20 students in a low socio-economic area. Most of my students speak Spanish as a second language. We are a project improvement school.

My students love to read... and what better way to improve their reading than to make their own books. My class this year has shown such an interest in writing. I have decided to mix the 2 subjects.

I would love for my students to be able to write freely without having to worry about sharpening their pencils when they break or running out of paper. It would be nice just to have a basket of pencils for my students to grab from. I would also love it if they had enough paper to write stories on... without having to worry about how much they are using. Our school gives us a budget at the beginning of the year... once that is used up the supplies for the classroom have to come from the students or teacher. My students do not have "extra" supplies or money at home. The lamination would make their books complete. When they have finished writing their story and have created a cover I would laminate it and create a book for them to share with the class and their families. Eventually, we could have a class full books written by first graders.

With the help of your donation you will make it possible for first graders to become authors and have the ability to share their novels with their friends and families.
