Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Kids love creating their own books. Writer's Workshop is a great program to use in the classroom to get kids to write. But, a few supplies are needed to make this successful. Give the kids a genre, some sample texts and techniques and watch them become authors and illustrators.

I have a class of 24 kids from lower income families.

Most of my students are on free or reduced lunch. They come from homes where both parents work. Some are latch key kids or spend a lot of time with babysitters. My students love learning but do not always have access to materials that encourage them to learn at their full capacity.

My Project

I would love for my students to be able to write freely without having to worry about how much paper they are using. That is why a sufficient supply of paper (different size lines) is so important. The school gives us a small budget at the beginning of the year, but once it is used up the rest of the supplies come from the students or teacher. My students do not have extra supplies at home nor the money to buy them. The journals are for daily writing on a topic. The paper and construction paper as well as the fancy scissors are for creating their own book. Once their book is written they can use the construction paper and scissors to illustrate and create a cover. This is the part they enjoy best. It is so amazing to see the minds of 6 year olds at work and the wonderful stories they create.

I would be so grateful if you considered funding this project.

My students would really benefit from the supplies needed in this project to become mini authors and illustrators. I thank you in advance.
