This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember what it was like to open a puzzle box and the satisfaction you felt when you completed the puzzle? Imagine if it was also a learning puzzle...

I have a class room of 24 students.

Most of which are from low income families. Many of my students are on free or reduced lunch. They are either latch key kids, have babysitters or spend the afternoons at afternoon care. Many come into first grade low in English. They have spent the first 6 years of their lives speaking Spanish, so this year my main focus is improving their reading and writing in English.

My Project

I am asking for 6 different learning puzzles. These puzzles will help with literacy strategies. Most of them have a picture and the students either have to match a word or concept. For example it will have the word park and the students will find the picture of a car parked and the playground park. Another example might be a picture of a cupcake and the students will have to find the words cup and cake. Other types of puzzle helps in blending words, sequencing with pictures, contractions, or building phrases. These are great for students to work on individually or with a partner, either when their work is complete or while I am working with a small group.
