Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

A majority of my students are from a low income family and receive free or reduced-price lunch. Many of my students take home bags of non perishable meals to get them through the weekend. Despite their economic status, my student arrive to class with a smile and are eager to learn each day. The community surrounding our school consists of abandoned houses and vacant lots full of debris. My students often tell me about unfortunate incidents that occur in their own backyard. My goal is to create a safe learning environment that they can call their home away from home.

My Project

Our morning meetings usually occur at the carpet. We’ll sit in a circle and start our day by greeting one another and sharing any news. However my classroom does not have a rug for students to sit comfortably. I wouldn’t want them to sit on a cold hard floor. We could use a rug that provides a cushioned meet spot for my kiddos. We could also use a bin that will help keep our class neat and organized. Student will know where to put there completed work and where to find any missing assignments. These items will help create a comfortable and organized learning environment.
