My Students

Do you remember getting your first instrument in elementary music class? My students have not yet had this opportunity to discover their first wind instrument, but with a soprano recorder, they can!

"Oh, The Places You Will Go," is the theme of our school this year.

A vast majority of my students come from low socioeconomic apartments/homes and therefore, do not have access to personal wind instruments. This limits the places they can go. With a total enrollment around 790 students, my partner teacher and I believe that every child can learn, and it is our responsibility to see the potential in every child and teach every child. We believe that there is a "David" (Michelangelo's David statue) in every child. As teachers, it is our job to sculpt away and teach every child every day. Our kids are polite and kind students who are simply looking for someone to love them and teach them.

My Project

Recorders are a standard instrument for every music student enrolled in an elementary music classroom. My students need a class set of soprano recorders in order to learn how to play a wind instrument. In order to follow the curriculum established by our school district, our students must have access to recorders. The curriculum explicitly outlines the need for an education in recorders. Because we have very small budget for music at our school, my partner teacher and I have never had the funding to purchase a class set of recorders for our students. By purchasing this class set of recorders our students will have the privilege to receive the same education that every other student receives in the same school district. With a very transient population our students will be able to transfer to others schools within the district and be on the same musical level as every other music classroom.

By investing in the school, your donation will change the lives of our kids.

Not only will it make them smarter and ready for the real world, it will teach them to be a better person. We teach music, but our goal is to teach them to be kind and share. In a school with 790 kids and one music classroom, our students have to endure music lessons with 50 students in one class. With the recorders we will receive, our students will learn to share and care for a shared instrument among every student.
