Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
I am a 6th-grade teacher in a school with limited resources. My school is in an urban environment where all my students qualify for - and receive - free breakfast, lunch, and snacks daily. Most of my students are considered low income. Some of my students come from all around the world and are learning English.
Despite these financial obstacles and hardships, I want my students to feel successful at all times.
There are so many things that we can use in the classroom that will aid all students, yet as teachers in a low-income district, we just don't have the access to them.
My Project
I read a picture book to my 6th graders via Google Meets on the first day of school and they loved it. They even typed in the chat box that they haven't been read to in a long time. I am hoping to present them with a challenge of reading 100 pictures book during the school year, regardless of it we are in person or remote. Reading these diverse, inclusive books will help them not only with their reading skills, but will also help them grow empathy and kindness towards others.
