Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I want to empower my girls to know about money, how to overcome conflicts and take care of their bodies.

My students are all excited about learning.

They attend a school that is very low income. The school provides breakfast, a snack and lunch every day to 90% of my students. Most of them are immigrants. I have students from refugee camps (Somalia and Burma) and from Asia and Latin America.

My Project

These non-fiction books will give my students the skills to help their parents and families. The reality is that most of their parents do not speak English. I was shocked that Baby 411 (how to know how to take care of infants and when you need to call the Dr.) has turned into one of the most popular books. Many of my students interpret for their parents when they need to go to the Dr. or the bank.

I would like to buy non-fiction books on health issues, behavior issues and money issues so my students can be more empowered to help out their families.

At the same time, they will increase their reading skills.
