My Students

My students are an amazing group of 3rd graders who have an enormous thirst for learning. They are kind, inquisitive, talented, funny and creative. They think with their minds and hearts! Each day, I find new ways to keep them engaged, focused, and inspired by the different activities and insights that keep us moving forward.

My students embrace an insatiable love of learning and the idea that knowledge is power.

Since I work in a very low socio-economic community, many of my students do not have many resources at home. Our school is a Title One school and nearly all students receive free breakfast and lunch. Despite challenges in some of their home lives, my students come to class every day with a great attitude. My students are hard workers and strive to make at least one person smile each day. When they grow up, I know that they will make an even bigger positive change in the world!

My Project

My students need high interest books on financial literacy that will enable them to become educated consumers, wise savers, and future entrepreneurs. My students are amazed when I tell them how much basic necessities add up, and what a person is responsible for financially, when he or she becomes an adult. Our school library and even the local public library have very few books on financial literacy. My students needs books to help them understand economy, figure out ways to plan college education, learn how to save, and make plans on how to set up a successful business. We will do several activities that will include planning their savings and making wise consumer choices. The culminating project will include thinking of a business they would like to have someday, and creating a business plan.

These books about financial literacy and educational materials will be helpful in captivating their interest in becoming more competent in today’s world.

My hope is that someday they, too can be future entrepreneurs and be able to also give back to their communities.
