My Students

My school provides special education to students from Pre-k to 8th grade. We are a multi-site program with many of our classes in co-located schools. The students are alternate/standard assessment and have various learning challenges. The students we work with are blind, autistic, language delayed, and many have behavior or emotional difficulties.

The students thrive and reach great heights because of the tremendous work of the teachers and staff.

We are a united force.

My class consists of 12 students that are 3 and 4 years old. Their backgrounds differ as well as their personalities. They all have a diagnosis of autism or learning disabilities. Classroom instruction needs to be differentiated and taught through a variety of modalities. Their individual needs vary academically, socially and sensory. It is necessary to provide my students with a multi sensory teaching approach in order to support their needs. They are a fun loving, great group of little guys. They are always excited to learn new things and love coming to school They keep me on my toes every day and I love them for it!

My Project

The Listening center I have requested will motivate my students to want to read and listen to music. I enjoy singing silly songs and reading all types of books each day to my students. It is so important to expose them to text as much as possible. Giving them opportunities to hear rhymes and word patterns will help them to become ready for reading.The more they hear new sounds and words the more comfortable they become, and they will begin to recognize that words have meaning and thus creating excitement about reading I hope that creating a special listening center will provide my students with all the tools they need to begin making literacy connections. Your donations will greatly be appreciated and you will be helping to create the readers and musicians of the future!
