I am a middle school art teacher at Community Academy Public Charter school in Northeast DC. I currently teach grades seven and eight and will be doing the same for next years returning classes. Currently our school is in a state of renovation and the majority of our funds goes to fixing the leaking roof and broken windows leaving little money for the classrooms and especially for the arts. My classroom has come very far since the start of school, having literally nothing to having the room start to look and feel more like an art room everyday. My classroom tends to be a place that the students want to come and stay because of the lessons and the images on the walls. They are always asking me about the paintings and drawings on the walls that I have made. I would like to offer more of the cultural aspects of art and of the fine arts, not just recreations that I have made to fill the room. I am asking for many different sets of educational prints that I can use in my multicultural and cross curriculum lessons as well as serving as visual stimulation's during lessons and critiques. Also a number of my students have learning disabilities that can prevent them from understanding unless they are prompted with a visual cue. The students respond and understand better when they are presented with an image first so they can relate their lessons to the actual established historical reference. Please take a moment and consider funding my proposal for as many art prints as I can get my hands on.
