It is very challenging to explain the ozone layer, greenhouse gases, and pollution to students who can not see it. Having a high power telescope will allow my students to see beyond the pretty blue sky and "see" first hand why we need to clean up our planet!
My 4th graders live in a rural community in Oklahoma.
They are hard workers and are eager to be involved in helping clean up our environment. I am excited to teach my hands-on students innovative ways to change the world through building awareness and small community projects. My students have great parental support and that helps make our projects successful.
My Project
Having a high powered telescope will allow my students to understand what is really happening to our planet. I want to make a life long impact on my students about the harmful effects of pollution and greenhouse gases on our planet. I need a telescope that can show my students first hand what is happening. Books show drawings or diagrams to demonstrate this concept and it does not seem real to the students! Earth is in need of clean up and awareness is key. My students need to see what is happening and so they can clean up the planet and restore Earth. Once my students have an understanding they will create a DVD of their findings and pass it around the school so all the students will learn. They will also incorporate a plan of action which will include a Clean-Up-The-Planet portion suggesting all students recycle, reuse, and reduce. We are really excited about beginning this unit, however we need this telescope to make the impact on the students.
Having a high powered telescope will enhance our learning.
My students need to understand why they need to conserve and protect their planet and they need to understand how they can do it. A telescope will make my students see why recycling, reusing, and reducing is imperative to our planet.
