Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have your ever written a story you were extremely proud of? The words were so full of detail that it immersed reader and has him desiring a next chapter. Imagine drawing pictures that were so full of life that it captured the readers attention and kept it. Help my students Share their stories!!!

My students are East Harlem residents with a desire to succeed in life.

They work extremely hard in all subject areas. Though the school population mostly consist of minority students living beneath the poverty level, my students work as if they are wealthy (Even though only 4 of the 24 students have a computer in their home). They have a strong desire to learn, and are always thinking of ways to improve themselves. And so am I. Twenty-four students, twenty-four characters and twenty-four personal experiences to work with everyday. Some days are better than others, but all days are full of experiences. Writing about their experiences gives them and outlet. It allows them to release and share what is on their mind and what they have gone through. Counselors are often called to address issues that adolescences experience. And through all of those issues, the desire to learn continues to fulfill them. I am rewarded daily as I watch their desires grow.

My Project

Writing workshop is like a treat for them. I enjoy saying, "take out your writing books." It's usually followed by cheers. After each unit, students love to share their writing pieces and display their work. So far, they have written short fantasy stories, skits, essays, letters, realistic fiction stories, poetry and more. I would like for them to take home a bonded book by the end of the school year before they graduate. A printer that prints, scans and copies is strongly desired. Getting copies made in my school is like asking for a solid gold bar. And their is a strong possibility that your papers will be lost, misplaced. or put on the back shelf. I am still waiting for copies I put in 2 weeks ago. It is that sad, because the unit is over. HELP!!! HELP!!! HELP!!!

My students are proud writers.

Seeing their writing pieces published and mass produced, to share with friends and family, will open their minds and broaden their goals. Help me support success by broadening their abilities. Let them know that it is possible to be published.
