My Students

It is the time of year when students are buckling down and really putting their best work together. That would be easy to do if we had the paper to do it with. We can't create our artifacts and we don't know what to do!

My students are children who come from impoverished homes.

Many are single parent homes where the parent is working hard, but ends just aren't meeting. Many are military dependents with a parent deployed. Others are children who are multi-generational families of poverty. They all attend a wonderful Title One school that works hard to ensure their educational needs are met. Over ninety percent of our students receive free lunches through the federal lunch program. They are not students who I can tell to bring five dollars to school to cover a paper fee. My students love to work, love to impress and love to create. They want to do their best but are faced daily at home with hot having the materials they need to merely survive. They are students who struggle. Their desire alone makes me want to do everything I can to help them.

My Project

We are ready to start putting our learning down on paper and creating our portfolios for the year. These portfolios are an artifact that we can use to show we have mastered our standards and share with others. Portfolio building also helps my students learn organization and how to put the right things together they will need later in life when getting ready for a job. I am requesting plain white paper that we can use in a computer printer or copier. With the paper, we can make copies of things we need to fill the pages of our portfolios as well as give students a "blank sheet" to create their own masterpieces. Currently we have one ream of paper to service 220 students for the next semester.

Our school budget cannot support the purchase of more paper this year.

Our students need this paper for their day to day activities that will build their portfolios, but more importantly, give them the daily learning Opportunities to promote growth.
