Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My classroom needs a table and chairs. This table will be used everyday during our guided reading activity. Guided reading is when the students are in small reading groups (2-6 students) and reading to the teacher. This activity is a component of a balanced literacy program. Balanced Literacy empowers kids to read and write. A table is important to have, so the students can be ready and focus during the guided reading lessons. I teach a Special Education Second Grade class that consists of 12 students with various disabilities; for example, many of my students have speech and language impairments, learning disabilities, emotional problems, etc. These same students are two grades below their grade level in reading. The school I work at is in transition of moving the lower grades that includes my class to a new building (an annex). I want my special needs students to have the same opportunities and experiences as the general education population. Thus, it is essential that the students have the proper classroom furniture in order to implement an effective guided reading lesson. A table and chairs will allow the students to stay on task and be actively engage during the reading lesson. Also, the students will become better readers and writers. Thank you in advance.
