My Students

Do you remember after school activities at your middle school? There were many teams and clubs to choose. These activities make students feel they are part of the school; helps them to be proud of their school. Our students do not have that. We have no teams or clubs. Please help us change that.

Our students are used to doing without.

They do without a 2 parent home, they do without enough food to eat, they do without a safe neighborhood to play in, they do without role models to show them how to solve problems without fighting. Our students know very little about working with others as a team to accomplish goals. They would be filled with pride in themselves and in their school if they felt a connection to it. After school activities can help foster teamwork, confidence, and encourage students to stay out of trouble. When our kids leave school they have little to go home. There is so much gang activity around their homes it is not safe to even walk to a friends house. They are at the age where gang activity looks a lot more fun than sitting inside the house all the time. If we do not allow the students a chance to develop their talents, try new things, and offer them a safe and supportive place to be with their friends, they might soon join one of the gangs.

My Project

Having a drum corps will help revive some pride in our school. Students are already excited to get started. Working in unison with each other will teach teamwork. It is hard to fight with someone on your own team. Having a drum corps will help those who are on it feel especially proud and this will encourage them to meet the requirements necessary to stay on the corps (GPA, and no fighting). Having a drum corps will help the entire student body feel proud of their school, that they go to a good school. This will help them feel better about themselves.

Ultimately, this drum corps will teach students that with hard work and determination comes great rewards.

This project will decrease the number of fights in our school as well as motivate students to increase academic scores.
