I am a 5th grade teacher. I have 26 students this year and 8 of them are English Language Learners. We are a low-income, title one school. The majority of our school population is Hispanic, therefore we have many parents who are non-English speakers which is a major obstacle for teachers. Lastly, we do mainstream from Special Education. We like to use the "full-inclusion" method by making the Special Ed students feel as though they are just another part of a class and not separated out.

Confidence,Fearfulness,non-participation, vision impaired and English language learners. Just to name 3 of the major obstacles we face in our classroom.

My students need a need an Elmo multimedia projector. LCD projectors are great, but having the Elmo hooked up to it gives the students an opportunity to put their work under it as "real time." This way they don't have to go "up" to a board and do the problem/question on there while in front of the class. Many students get really nervous doing this. An Elmo may help he/she by letting them do the work at their desks and THEN come up and show their work. Yes, either way they have to come up in front of the class, yet with an Elmo they can just show the work rather than having to perform the work. I am convinced with this piece of technology in the classroom would boost participation. Even for the teacher it helps with students who have vision problems (and I have a lot this year! :) ). This way they can see better and not have to strain their eyes. Please note that my class is set up for 30, yet I have only 26, so the majority are up front, it is hard because you have to be careful of the behavior problems and still accommodate the kids who have to be up from due to their vision. Having an Elmo in my class would help tremendously because instead of making copies or transparent all the time, I coul

CONFIDENCE!! CONFIDENCE!!If this piece of technology was donated it would change the dynamic of the classroom in a great way, you would see students getting up and participating in every subject. Knowing they just have to put their work up there and not have to write or solve anything in from of the class would be great! My little fearful, English language learners would feel more comfortable with this!
