Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a first year Kindergarten Inclusion teacher in a NYC public school. Thus far, I have had a wonderful experience and great success in incorporating art into our mathematics and literacy lessons. The 25 young students in my class truly enjoy seeing mathematical concepts, such as counting and patterning, come alive through the use of craft items such as die cut foams, buttons and beads. The children also enjoy forming letters with craft materials and recreating literary characters from construction paper, oaktag, and other art materials. All of the 25 students in my class would love to continue learning through these fun and educational activities, but due to lack of funds we are unable to provide the materials needed create these educational projects. It would be unfortunate if such creative learning were to cease. We are in short supply of die cut foams, buttons, beads, sequins, yarn, feathers, and pipe cleaners. In addition we are also in dire need of colored constuction paper, tissue paper, foam board, oaktag, crayons, markers, paints, brushes, and sponges. Such materials truly enhance the students' learning experience. Thank you for your interest in my class!
