Imagine a baseball team with everything to gain this season. They train hard, go to classes, and have committed countless hours to working on fielding, hitting, and running. Imagine opening day at home where tons of students, faculty, and family are at the game waiting to see how the five months worth of training finally pays off. Now imagine a player getting his first hit but as he rounds second, he falls or when he tries to track down a fly ball in the gap, he slips and the ball rolls all the way to fence costing the team the game. He did not fall because he could not run or play his position correctly; it was because he did not have cleats. At Truman High School in the northeast section of the Bronx, 18 of my 20 varsity athletes are without baseball cleats for the upcoming season. I have been coaching this team for three years and this shortage has always been a problem. It severely hampers their ability to run in the field and most importantly, puts their safety in jeopardy. I am looking for a generous donor who loves baseball as much as my students do to donate 20 pairs of baseball cleats. This will allow our students to feel good about themselves as well as perform at the level that I know they are capable of performing. At Truman High School, my athletes are committed to winning and playing hard both on and off the field. We are only asking for the tools necessary to accomplish this goal.
