Help Ms. W.

I teach first grade at a charter school in Indiana. This is the third year that we have been open and we are working hard to meet the needs of every student. Our population primarily comes from a very low income area. At least 80% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch.

Last year our students found a turtle while playing outside at recess. They have done a very good job of taking care of him but they are worried that he is not learning. They want to read to him but we do not have a library to get books from. They want him to learn Math, Science, Social Studies, and anything else that they might be learning about as well. So, we need books that they can read to him and teach him while practicing our reading skills!

I think we could most benefit from assortments of books that cover each subject that the children are learning. This will be a great start for a classroom library to choose books from to tutor our turtle.

Your help will ensure that my students continue reading without knowing that they are really helping themselves more than the turtle! You will make it possible for them to have books in their hands whenever they feel the need to teach someone else!
