Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Africa is how far from us??? I teach 8th grade U.S. History. My school is a center for students with special needs, and we have a high percentage of students with English as their second language. Due to limited personal funds, many of our students have never left the town they live in.

My students have been studying slavery throughout the year. We have spent a great deal of time on the voyage from Africa to the U.S. My students are struggling with why the voyage wasn't a straight trip across the Atlantic. Flat maps just don't show the picture properly. The globes the school once had are damaged, out of date, or have been thrown away, and there are no funds to buy new ones.

My students are in need of new, up-to-date globes. The globes will help them visualize why the trip across the Atlantic wasn't straight. They will be able to use the globes to map the routes the slave ships traveled.

Your help in purchasing these globes will ensure that my students will fully understand the horror of the slave trade. Your donation will show them that the lesson isn't only important to me, the teacher. Someone else out there, not in education, values the lesson they are learning.
