This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My low income, urban students only visit places that are within walking distance of their homes and their school. They would really love to learn about places they may never get to visit in person.
My First Grade students love to learn about many places through stories that we read in class. Our classroom does not have any globes and maps to be able to show the students about places they read about. We would really like to see a globe or map of the places we read about.
Our school has very limited funds to buy anything for the classroom other than the basic needs. In order for us to learn about the world we need globes and maps.
My students only get to travel places within the city by walking or taking the bus. They do not get to travel around outside their neighborhoods. They would like to learn about places that we read about. I would like them to travel through their reading and seeing wonderful places on a map or globe.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
