  • Reorganizing Our Reading!

    Funded Aug 16, 2023

These clear organization bins have helped my students see the options in our library so much more clearly! We are starting the year off right with their reading! The plastic file folder bins will become "home" for their books for independent reading.

These bins will be functional, versatile, and provide instant organization for my students and their independent reading.

We read every single day and let me tell you, the mess of these books and not knowing what book belongs to who will finally become easy! Students will have about 10-12 books that they switch out weekly and these bins will be the perfect storage solution!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Zuchero

  • Calming Area

    Funded Mar 30, 2023

This calming corner will provide my students with a safe space and helpful strategies to deal with big feelings. These tools will provide an area where students can exercise breathing skills, sensory activities, fidget therapy and stress relief. Dealing with emotions as a first grader can be very overwhelming.

Some items that assist with these struggles are fidget toys, sensory stickers, mirrors to review self reflection, calming coloring books, breathing boards, and emotional books teaching how to self regulate these difficult emotions that range from anger to anxiety.”

    Mrs. Zuchero

My students attend a high-poverty school with very little resources. 100% of the students are offered a free breakfast and lunch program. A large number of my students attend a before-school program AND an after-school program, leaving them at school for close to a total of 8-10 hours per day. There is very little parent involvement in my classroom, as most parents are busy with either work or attending school themselves. With all of this data, it is so surprising that my students are still passionate about learning, regardless of their lack of resources. It is inspiring to be their educator and pushes me to gather more and more resources for them to thrive and further their love of learning.
