Funded Oct 25, 2024Thank you so much for your generous donations to our math lessons. We have incorporated small group lessons into our daily math routines. It's great because students get personalized instruction with me, then they get to go practice those skills with friends playing the math board/tactile games. Thanks to the games and materials in this math project I have enough meaningful, standards based games that students enjoy; it keeps them engaged and learning while having fun.
Students have shared that the 'games are fun and they help me learn,' I like multiplication Jenga because it challenges my brain,' and 'I like the math games because they help me understand math because I can see it visually.' Every student in class has shared that they enjoy small group math time because they get to learn together with their friends and help each other when they get stuck.
Thank you all so much for helping keep my class engaged in learning.”

Let's Talk About Anti-Racism
Funded Apr 7, 2024Thank you so much for conrtributing to our "Let's Talk About Anti-Racism" project. Using these books helped give us a way to start to talk with children about race and anti-racism, and what we as a community can do to support a child who's experiencing racist bullying.
These materials also allow us as educators to facilitate and guide conversations that can be very difficult to have. We want to use these books to not only help start the conversation, but also keep the conversation going.
Books can help ensure children believe in themselves, become ally to others, recognize the power of kindness, compassion and empathy for others, and ultimately, books and conversations help celebrate both what's common and different among the diverse people students know now and will meet in the future.

A Show They'll Remember!
Funded Apr 25, 2024Thank you so much for helping make this event so much fun for students. For most, this student-created musical was their first time ever being on stage and performing for the whole school.
What I loved the most in this entire process is watching my students gain more confidence in themselves. I also was so impressed at the way they took over the tasks involved in a musical production. We had lead sound and tech 'experts', costume managers; stage hands, and back up sound checkers. It was so much fun.
Of course the question now is; how can we make our show even better for the end of next year!”

Dollar Dollar Bill Time!
Funded Sep 11, 2023Thank you so much for helping our class grow, learn, and play with financial literacy. We are so grateful for the possibility the materials from this project have provided for our class.
The Generational Wealth Building Activity Book has sparked many great conversations in class. Since we started using the activities from the book, students have decided that they want to run their own class store; and they are. They have clerks, supply managers, and bankers who run the whole store. It is the first time I've ever had students who were so eager and excited to run their store all on their own.
I feel that by just talking about financial literacy students already feel empowered to learn about it. But also, the Financial Literacy Memory Matching Game has helped build financial literacy vocabulary through play. And, the Exact Change Card Game is really helping build math skill accuracy with addition, subtraction, and basic accounting concepts.
Thank you very much.”

Funded Apr 5, 2023Thank you so much for helping fund our project "Let's Talk: Social Justice and Anti-Racism."
The reading materials in this project have had an amazing impact on our whole class, myself included. These materials continue to be a step for us in our journey towards anti-racism.
By sharing these diverse books—we were able to read texts that show a variety of people and cultures in a variety of settings. These books helped students in this class, and in future classes, understand that there are differences among people, but that all have a rightful place. The materials are well written and illustrated, and they offer opportunities for students to engage with them. These diverse books for teaching are helping my students and I actively participate in eliminating racism.”

Funded Mar 11, 2023Thank you so much for contributing to our "Give a Kid a Book Club" project on Donors Choose. I am very excited to say that this project was a huge success, in many ways.
Students were so excited to get new book sets for their groups. They love to sit together and take turns reading the same story together. The students bonded over books; I even heard them talking about one of the book characters and plot in the lunchroom! That was a very happy teacher moment for sure.
Another positive impact I noticed is they became more autonomous readers by being able to choose their own reading materials, and generally being self-sufficient, which helps them take more interest in reading on their own.”

Let LEGO "Spike" Our Creativity
Funded Jan 30, 2023Thank you so much for helping our class receive the LEGO Spike Educational Robotics sets. The class has been so excited learning how to make LEGOs come to life! They were so excited when the packages arrived I thought I'd never get them settled down to start coding....but I was wrong. They got into groups, we downloaded the appropriate software and they got right to building!
The first project the class chose to build was a dancing robot that we could use for class dance parties. We got set to building the dancing robot. One thing that was really unexpected during this process was the amount of community building it has created.
Now that we know how to build and code the robot we can enjoy it whenever we want. Students are now working in small groups to build and code their own unique projects. This has been a continuously fun and engaging process for everyone.”

There Should Be No Such Thing As Boring Mathematics!
Funded Jan 8, 2022Thank you so much for contributing to our class math project "There Should Be No Such Thing As Boring Mathematics!"
I created the project with the idea of incorporating math games into our daily math routine and it has been a huge success both socially as well as academically. As we all know-learning is social and playing organized games helps students build their social skills. Having these common core standards based math games has allowed the class to practice their social skills while increasing their academic knowledge in a really fun way.
Our class loves the variety and choice they have due to the numerous games we now have. There are enough standards based math games for each student to have a new game every day. I've dedicated a 15 minute block of time to daily math games, and I've seen their skill levels increase in the content areas we are focused on in math. The entire class has improved in understanding fractions, geometry, and they continue to increase their multiplication skills and fluency!
Thank you so much for bringing the fun into our day!”

Funded May 7, 2019Thank you so much for your contributions to our school pollinator garden. We had our groundbreaking, community day yesterday where we set up our new greenhouse, our new migration station, and we planted our new plants! It was an amazing turnout. So many students, and their families, are being positively impacted by our new pollinator garden. We spent a little over four hours shoveling, building, preparing soil, and setting up our drought friendly irrigation drip lines. It was a wonderful day.
When the first boxes, plants, and painted lady butterfly larvae arrived, my class was so excited! We began our pollinator garden "blueprint" designs. The students learned how to make a very simple scaled down model by converting feet into centimeters and mapping their ideas out, to scale, with construction paper and pencil. They were so incredibly engaged in designing their pollinator garden! We had our final vote....and we agreed on our pollinator garden layout. Next week we will put our painted lady chrysalises in the migration station and let the pollinating begin!”
