  • The Supplies Everyone Forgets

    Funded May 23, 2013

When my students saw the supplies for the first time, they were just as excited as the adults in the classroom to use them.

Immediately, the pencils and pencil sharpener were put to use. The students were excited that they now had erasers on their pencils again and they looked bright yellow and long. My aide and myself were happy now that we do not have to hand sharpen over a trashcan pencils and get tired from sharpening. I especially enjoy the light that tells me when the pencil is finished being sharpened.

I know as the year progresses and years to come, the pencils, the sharpener, and the magnet board will be a great supplement to Language Arts and especially writing. Even as something as simple as a pencil motivates them to want to write. Thank you once again!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Zucconi

  • Welcome to "PawTastic" Avenue!!

    Funded Sep 9, 2013

My students were so surprised and excited when the resources arrived. As I unpacked the Language Arts and Science Common Core Learning Centers, they were all in awe, smiling, and paying attention to what will come out of the box next. They were naming the topics on each box and asking if they will have the opportunity to explore and use the activities. I remember many of the students saying I can't wait to have fun learning about the water cycle, animals, etc.

I teach the skills during whole group instruction and then allow my students the opportunity to be engage, explore and discover using these centers in small group on a daily basis. My students are continuing to learn so much from these ready-made centers. I have group leaders who are responsible for making sure that all students participate and are on task with completing their assignments. I also allow students to have additional practice time during free time.

This project has boost my teaching because the resources are aligned with common core standards. The skills are being reinforced during small group and the centers are simple, grade-appropriate,and ready-made. Also, my students love to learn from these centers and work together with their groups. The ready-made center forces students to collaborate with each other which is a vital part of the learning process.

I would like to close by saying thank you to all of my donors and supporters for making my students feel special. I want to thank you for your generosity and willingness to contribute to making a difference for my students by pouring addition knowledge into our curriculum and their educational needs which provides fun differentiated ways of learning. My students are very grateful for you and I am as well.”

  • Third-Graders Seeking Desk-Sized Dictionaries

    Funded Jun 1, 2013

Thank you so much for contributing to my classroom. My students absolutely love these new dictionaries! These dictionaries are such an upgrade from our previous dictionaries. They are so bright, colorful, and kid-friendly. My students are always excited to have new materials. They love these dictionaries so much more than the old ones, and they're always looking for an excuse to use them.

Although these dictionaries are kept on a bookshelf in the back of the room, I encourage students to use them whenever they encounter unknown words. During our silent reading block, they'll often venture to the back of the room to look up words. We also have whole-class lessons from time to time on the format of dictionary entries and parts of speech.

Because these dictionaries are catered to children, my students are eager to use them. Additionally, my students can more easily access the information that dictionaries provide. Thank you again for your generous donation.”

  • Desperately Seeking New Rug for Little Learners

    Funded Jun 10, 2013

Thank you so much for the wonderful and generous donation of the new area rug for our classroom! The rug is so clean and beautiful. It was such a great feeling knowing I could open up this new school year with a fresh, sanitary surface that the children could use every day!

The colorful design of the carpet is cheerful and primary-friendly, which is a motivating addition to our classroom decor. The rainbow pattern also helps keep the kids organized in rows. Each time we come to the carpet for story time or lessons, the children go directly to their assigned square. This makes each transition efficient and conflict-free. Dismissing by color is also a handy option made simpler with this great classroom accessory.

All the students in my class this year and in years to come will enjoy your gift. Your generosity and commitment to education is so very much appreciated! Many thanks!”

  • A Cozy Reading Area with a Warm Rug and 2 Bean Bag Chairs

    Funded May 24, 2013

My students love the new rug, bean bag chairs and books. There were many oohs and ahhh's and they were saying things like, "The rug is so soft and fuzzy!", "I like the different colors and the ABC pictures", "I never sat in a bean bag chair before", "It feels great!".

Children sit on a different letter of the ABC rug each day. They learn the letter they are sitting on and its sound. They have to tell a partner the name of the letter they are sitting on and the sound it makes. The children also love to pick one of the new books and sit on the bean bag chair. They are learning to take turns and share the chair with a classmate.

The alphabet rug gives each child their own personal sitting space. This helps them stay focused on what is being taught. The new animal story books teach may good lessons on being responsible, working together and sharing. The bean bag chairs really help students stay focused on quiet reading.”

  • Connecting Students With Our American Heroes

    Funded Jun 1, 2013

I would like to sincerely thank each and every one of you for your contribution to our classroom project for American Heroes biographies. The biographies and the audiobooks arrived about a week ago and the students were eager to unpack the boxes and organize them in our listening center. An hour later, the students visited the center. Group by group, my second graders were able to dive into the life stories of heroes like Anne Frank, George Washington, and Martin Luther King, Jr.

We discussed the proper use of each item and how to best take care of our new and valuable gifts. Over the next few days I hear my students chatting about these heroes in line, at recess, and afterschool. I am so excited that they have the opportunity to learn about these individuals in an age-appropriate and meaningful manner. When we are ready to begin our unit on American heroes in Social Studies, my students will have the resources and knowledge at their fingertips.

They have grown more responsible and accountable for their learning. This new opportunity for students to practice responsibility has helped them become advocates for their own successes in social studies. With your generous contribution, they are able to become fascinated and dedicated leaders in our classroom. Thank you very much!”

  • Art for Tiny Hands: Sensory Materials for Pre-K Autism Class

    Funded May 28, 2013

Thank you so much for your generous donation to my classroom! We are an autism-specific classroom where students receive early intervention services to help them learn language, social, and play skills, and prepare for kindergarten. We are located in a large urban district in California.

Many children with autism have sensory difficulties with wet or sticky art materials that make engaging in art projects difficult and unpleasant for them. These art materials are all selected to be sensory-friendly! They include glue sticks, squeeze-paint brushes, smocks, and play dough rollers and stamps- all materials that allow students to engage in art without the unpleasant sensory experience.

I know these materials will give my students a chance to enjoy creating art! Thank you so much for your donation!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Hanawalt
