Larry began teaching in California, and then moved to Philadelphia and taught physics at Philadelphia High School for Girls and Central High School until his retirement in 2001. He also oversaw a physics summer mentorship program at the University of Pennsylvania for high school students of color for many years. After retiring he continued to teach physics part-time at Community College of Philadelphia.
Larry was passionate about teaching and supporting young minds. As he grew older he extended his teaching into other fields, including teaching equine therapy and the Alexander Technique.
Please join Larry's loved ones in supporting Philadelphia area school students in funding their classroom projects. hide
Unfortunately, the vendor was unable to provide the drum set (which included hardware and cymbals) that I originally requested in our proposal. I then requested a less costly replacement. I used the remaining funds to purchase an instructional book and drumsticks which the vendor promptly sent us. However, the vendor wasn't able to fulfill the order for the replacement drum set. As a result, the remaining funds were returned to me, and I have dedicated those funds to a new project that includes a drum set, necessary hardware, and cymbals.
It is my sincere hope that, with the donations you already contributed, the newly proposed project will be fully funded and fulfilled promptly and without incident. Thank you again for your support in the revival of our school's music tradition.”
This has been a very exciting school year. We have just came back into the school district and these items helped create a warm and welcoming environment when they into the classroom. I did not have to ask students to bring in much because if the items that you all provided. One day one we were able to get started with the curriculum.
As students entered they were excited to see the new borders, just the way how the classroom came to life. We will like to thank each and every one of you for all that you provided. To bring this new school year off to a great start.”

Ms. Graham

Thank you for your generous donation. Your donation will help us to have a supply of healthy snacks available for our student-athletes to eat after practice. These snacks will help our students to replace the calories and nutrients used during our practices and workouts. Some ways that snacks can be beneficial in a diet are: they can increase nutrient intake, sustain energy levels, help the body recover from exercise and give individuals plenty of healthy options. Certain snacks can help improve the quality of a diet. For example, nutrient dense foods can help one meet recommended intake levels of nutrients and food group servings. Thank you for supporting the ones who need it the most.”

Thank you so much for helping my students to receive the amazing resource of Scholastic News Magazines! My students absolutely love reading our weekly magazines as well as using the online resources that accompany each issue. Some of the more popular issues we have read this year have been "The Sweet Story of Candy Land" which taught us all about the history of the classic board game and "Something Big is Coming!, which taught us more about the Solar Eclipse that happened this year!.
Each week, we spend one social studies period or science period using our Scholastic news magazines to supplement our districts curriculum. Using the magazine exposes students to many more topics that they find interesting that aren't always covered by the districts curriculum. The magazines are on grade level and easy to read for them. We really enjoy our news magazine and are so grateful that you were willing to help us get our subscription.”

First and foremost, my Scholars and I want to thank you for helping to create a more enjoyable and engaging math class. When we received the donations, the students were very excited to put the tennis balls on the chairs and they were challenging each other on how fast they could pump up the wiggle seats. After a few days and three air pumps later, our flexible seating was in full effect.
In 5th grade Math, we encourage collaborative learning and student discourse. We allow for students to find the best learning space in the classroom that will increase focus. Learning standard Algorithms for multi digit multiplication and division can increase frustration in students. I was happy to see students wiggling in their seats challenging their partners answers and strategies. During whole group students are bouncing up from their seats just to share out their thoughts with excitement.
I know all of that doesn't just come from wiggle seats and tennis balls. However, I do know this gift that they receive from you, shows them that they are cared for and that is what touch my heart the most. Thank you so much for doing that. Also, I love my chair. I even allow students who are the star student a chance to sit in the chair for a day.”

My students and I love our book cart as well as the books we received. My students love how the books are organized in a way that makes it easy for them to choose books that are "good fit" books. The children use the books on for at home reading as well as during in- school quiet reading. I am so happy with the quality of the cart, the books, and the foldable chair.
Thank you for helping me furnish my classroom with great books. Your generosity is much appreciated. I look forward to adding more great reads to the cart, and see the excitement on my students' faces when we add even more great books to our classroom library. Generous people like you make my job as a teacher a bit easier. I am truly grateful for your help, kindness, and altruism.”

Thanks for giving students the chance to learn how to sew. We (Mrs. Williams, Ms. Reid-Campbell and I) should have started our students off in the latter part of last year but the students were reassigned to other enrichment courses, because there were some "hiccups" that caused us to get the machines around the middle of January, making it a task to get our student group back together.
Students are enthusiastic and others were disappointed that our maximum number of students is six. They were pleasantly surprised when we unveiled the sewing machines, each with a storage bag and basic accessories for sewing. They wanted to start sewing right away but they had to acquire preparatory knowledge such as attaching the sewing table and threading the machine. Students were most enthusiastic when they got to practice measuring and then cutting rectangular pieces of materials that they sewed along the edges and then got ready for transforming into tote bags but decided that they wanted different color cloth for their projects which, we decided to provide them with.
They look forward to use 'different color materials' to make personalized tote bags, hijabs, and other simple headwear.”

Ms. Reid
