  • Art of Learning

    Funded Sep 5, 2012

Thank you, thank you, thank you! The students love, love, love the learning experiences we've had using the supplies you provided with your generous gifts.

Making lapbooks to collect and connect learning experiences increases student interest. In addition, students are eager to revisit the lap books which naturally reinforces their learning. Differentiating instruction for special learning needs occurs almost effortlessly with lapbooks as each is naturally unique to its student creator. Students took home their Gingerbread Man creations just before break. Tucked into an envelope on the back, each has a collection of booklets we constructed and read during December. Inside there are pockets containing themed puzzles, matching games, sequence cards, poems, and a gingerbread house with gingerbread men and decorations as reminders of the variety of gingerbread books we read. As they share their special lapbooks with family, learning will be reinforced and they'll remember the fun they had.

Again, thank you for the materials for these lapbook treasures and future creative endeavors.”

  • What's Happening in the World Today?

    Funded Sep 6, 2012

I want to truly thank each and everyone one of your for your kindness in donating to my project. The Social Studies materials, Science magazines and Time for Kids magazines have been a wonderful addition to our learning environment.

The students love the Science magazines and were very excited to see topics in the magazine that we had been studying in class, especially the information about astronauts. The reference books for social studies have been very helpful in our studying of landforms and will also aid us as we learn other topics, especially about the 50 states. As I am writing this, I am also working with the teacher reference books to create lessons that will allow my student to interact more with technology and also better understand how the election process in our country works. It is very exciting for both myself and the students to use all these wonderful materials.

Again, I want to extend my deepest thanks to you all for allowing my students to expand their learning and interact with materials that will give them information they can use for years to come. Without donors like you, I would not get the opportunity to use the materials or expose the students to them. Thank you.”

  • Say "Cheese!"

    Funded Oct 10, 2012

Thank you so much for your generous donation! Because of your thoughtfulness and dedication to education, our classroom has received a digital camera that we use to capture learning experiences in our classroom. Many of the pictures the student and I have captured are a part of the year-long hallway display. Copies of pictures have also been sent home with the students so they can explain what they are learning in the classroom. Parents have also expressed their gratitude! They love having the pictures for their refrigerators and scrapbooks!

We certainly appreciate your help in getting this valuable piece of technology for our classroom.”

  • Musical Mozarts

    Funded Oct 8, 2012

I am truly overwhelmed by your generous giving to this project. By your generosity, you have opened the doors of opportunity so much wider for hundreds and future thousands of high poverty children.

The first day my students used the MyPiano software is a day I'll always remember. They were enjoying learning piano skills using the software so much that they did not want to stop! Even now after using multiple times, it is not uncommon for them to ask if they can come back during their extra time and practice some more.

You have left a definitive mark on the current hundreds and future thousands of musicians that will come through our doors. Although we are in the 21st century, arts programs in schools are still being cut. You are helping to reverse this trend. I am proud of you and I appreciate you all. Thank you for investing in our future!”

  • If You Were a Crayon.... What Color Would You Be?

    Funded Aug 29, 2012

Thank you all for the supplies of crayons, colored pencils, markers and oil pastels. The students are enjoying the coloring supplies and are learning to use them properly.

The pictures I have uploaded are ones of Pre-K using oil pastels to decorate a scarecrow during their unit on the Fall season. Older students are learning to combine the oil pastels with watercolors, to create a lovely picture where the oil pastel resists the watercolor application.

With your donation our students are benefiting from an academic environment that is rich in visual arts. Thank you!”

  • Director's Cut! Light, Camera, Action!

    Funded Oct 23, 2012

Thank you so much for your donation towards our camera and video camera! So far, we've used it to record our College Day presentation. It was so great to have the students being able to watch their own performance and those of their classmates. They really enjoyed seeing their own faces, even if they did pretend to be embarrassed.

We've also used it to record our reader's theaters. Students have been able to critique their own performances. It has truly helped to enhance their performances and presentations. They also enjoy taking pictures of themselves. My students really enjoy using it and with the simple controls, even an 8 year old can master it!

Thank you again for your generous donation!”

  • Write Right For Success

    Funded Oct 16, 2012

    Dear Folks at Chevron,

I received the materials funded by your generous donation this morning, and forced myself to put the boxes aside until my class came back from lunch. When everyone was settled back in the classroom, I announced that we had a gift to open. They were on the edge of their seats with anticipation as I sliced open the tape, lifted the flaps, and revealed a brand new pencil sharpener. Woo hoo!!! No more lugging pencils to the office to use the school sharpener!

Next up, the HUGE box containing a class set of colored pencils and markers (neither of which I was able to provide this year, so they are in super short supply), and whiteboard markers (Yes! No more sharing!!!) Big smiles all around for these, which will be put to use immediately as we finish up our "Bat Question and Answer Books."

I can't begin to express my gratitude for your contribution to my meager supply of materials this year. As the budget shrinks, so does our allotment of money for supplies. In a district where most families are struggling to keep a roof over their heads, donations such as yours make an incredible impact on the success of my students. Thanks for your help!”

    Mrs. Cooper

  • Kindergarten Drama Queens & Kings

    Funded Sep 14, 2012

Thank you for the generous donations to our classroom that enabled us to dramatically add to our dramatic play area! The students have had so much fun playing with the new materials and props. During their play, they naturally use a more robust vocabulary depending on what they are playing (names of workers, words related to hospitals, etc).

Aside from using a rich vocabulary, the students also used the costumes to enhance our social studies unit on community helpers. The children had so much fun pretending to be various members of the community.

When I posted this project, my hope was to get materials into our room that would raise the quality of the level of "play" in our classroom, because play is the work of children. After watching the students use these materials over the past few weeks, I can emphatically say that this happened.”

I want to thank you all so much for contributing to my project. Your responses have really blown me away. Rest assured your gifts will be an investment into the hearts and minds of the kids who come through my door every day of every year.

I'm looking forward to getting under way with the play, and will update you when it is done to let you know how it went. Thanks again, and keep doing what you are doing. You are clearly all awesome people who have a clear sense of equality, love, and social justice. ”

    With gratitude,
