  • GIVE IT a COLORFUL "FLAVA"

    Funded May 28, 2020

    October 29, 2020

We, the 6 grade historians, in Ms. Green's Social Studies classes would like to say a big "THANK YOU" for the school supplies that you provided for us during our time away from our school building.

Since we are learning at home on-line, many of our parents did NOT go out and buy us school supplies like normal. Many of our teachers are giving us projects to make our learning more interesting and fun, so we definitely needed the colorful markers, permanent markers, and colored pencils. We don't use crayons as much anymore, but our little brothers/sisters use them a lot.

Some of us got a chance to go to the school to pick up our supplies, but some of us had to wait until our teacher organized the supplies in a little backpack and delivered it to us. It was nice to see our teachers. Ms. Green says that she is going to put some supply kits together and put them on the school bus that brings us our lunches everyday so that we can get more supplies if we need them. We will soon be drawing maps in Social Studies class, so we really needed the colored pencils.

We really want to return to school in our building, but we know that we can't until it is safe. We are very grateful for the school supplies and they are much appreciated. Thanks again for helping us continue to learn during Coronovirus.

    Yours Truly,

The Historians in Ms. Green's Classes

    (1st, 2nd, 4th, 6th Block, and advisory)”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Green

I can't thank you enough for your generosity! I am extremely grateful, and my students are going to be very excited about this addition to our classroom. I am so excited to have the equiptment that we need in order to increase our reading skills. • Ready Readers

    Funded Mar 28, 2019

Thank you so much for our books for our leveled library!! The kids in the thank you pictures are my new kindergarteners this year and they love looking for letters and sight words in the easy readers. It is great when they find a word that they know and point it out to me while we read in the hallway during our bathroom break!!

The children in my room need to be able to find words and letters in order to quickly build their reading skills. Kindergarten students are expected to read at a level E by the end of the school year in order to be prepared for First Grade.

Thanks to you and your generosity my students will be able to get as close as possible to that goal. During the month of October we begin our reading groups and by January we start taking book baggies home to read with our families. The amount of books that I received through this project will enable all of my kids to have a wide variety of books from nonfiction to easy readers all on a level A or B.

I can't wait to see how the diversity of literature gives them excitement as they transition from learning letters to learning words to reading this year!!!”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher

  • Fill the Art Shelf

    Funded Dec 22, 2017

I truly appreciate your donation to my classroom. My students have enjoyed their art books very much.

In our art classroom, we strive to be informed about both art history and contemporary movements in the visual arts. My students look up artists from different time periods in order to learn new techniques or styles.

I tell my students that in order to have new ideas often times you have to look at what has come before you and what is happening all around you.

My students have enjoyed the book on color. We study color theory in almost every art class. The books on Color in Paris have really added to our curriculum. They love seeing the monochromatic color schemes in real world settings.

    Thank you again.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. McDonald

  • Exploring Urban Literature

    Funded Mar 17, 2018

Every morning we start class off with fifteen minutes of silent reading. A lot of students embrace this time because it's the only quiet minutes of the day, it allows time for an escape into a different world, and it's a time to relax and collect their thoughts. It's so quiet during this time that I feel guilty for even sneezing because it's a disruption to their reading. Students often sprawl out on the floor, lean back at their desks, or prop up their heads with one arm with the book settled in the other hand. We really enjoy these new Urban Underground books!

The skills that are being built from these books positively impact our daily lessons all the time. Every two weeks students are required to take an AR (Accelerated Reader) quiz on the book of their choice. These quizzes challenge their vocabulary, understanding of literature, and ask them to think deeper about the characters, plot, structures, and words used in the stories they read.

Some of my more reluctant readers have started to explore these urban literature texts because they're relatable, believable, and shorter to read. The feeling of accomplishment from finishing a book is indescribable, especially for my lower level readers. Just this week one student beamed at me, "Ms. Brege I finished another one of those Urban Underground books. It was so good!" Again, thank you for giving to my kids. They deserve access to texts that they can find enjoyment in, and YOU gave that to them!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Brege

  • Interactive Art Supplies

    Funded Apr 29, 2017

Thank you SO much for funding our project. As of right now our district has not even approved the art supplies we ordered for this year. This is why I use Donors Choose to stock my art room with the vital materials my students need to be successful in my class. Simple materials like markers, sequins, Popsicle sticks and glue have yet to be ordered but thanks to you, my kids can get started right away on creating amazing things. We will even get to learn calligraphy with the quill pens and add glass bottoms to our clay bowls with the glass marbles. I can't wait to get started!”
