Every project on DonorsChoose.org is a worthy one, but these all had something about them that really have a special pull for us. 1) Most are for schools with High Poverty levels -- the needs are very real & incredibly urgent. Many are requests for the MOST BASIC supplies: Paper, Pencils, Notebooks -- How can we expect students to learn without these essential learning tools? 2) Projects are from all over the country, but do tend to include a few more in NYC (where we live) and ... more

Many are requests for the MOST BASIC supplies: Paper, Pencils, Notebooks -- How can we expect students to learn without these essential learning tools? 2) Projects are from all over the country, but do tend to include a few more in NYC (where we live) and Upstate NY (where I grew up). 3) Literacy projects are often listed, because these are life skills that students need no matter what path they choose in the future. 4) We support many Autism projects & commend every Special Needs teacher for their dedication. 5) Music & Arts' projects: sadly, budget crunches often crush these classes first. Really hoping that they can all reach complete funding! Thanks to everyone for supporting the GREAT TEACHERS & AMAZING STUDENTS in all the projects on DonorsChoose.org! hide
Thank you so much for taking the time to read through our requests. The students are reading now more than ever. They are able to visit our classroom library and choose a few new books and genres.
We are constantly looking for ways to help students understand how bullying affects children and how it can really change a persons life. We are teaching students how to be upstanders and teaching strategies on how to speak up to a teacher.
We are very grateful for your donation and are excited to implement these new books.”

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your contributions to my project. Your generosity has given my students the opportunity to advance in areas such as reading, listening and speaking. As an English as A Second Language teacher, I value the importance of utilizing visual aides to help language development and build my students' confidence in speaking English. The children love to use the IPAD to read and listen to stories, browse the Internet to enhance classroom activities and build their vocabulary skills through the use of many apps.
I thank you again for your kindness and for your generous contributions.”
Thank you all so much for providing my students with the Encyclopedia Britannica English Language Learners collection. My students were so excited to try it out! They love selecting the e-books to read on the computer. My students feel comfortable reading these books because they are in both English and their native language, Spanish. The illustrations are eye-catching and the stories are entertaining.
My students are using the e-books during center time independently, while I instruct a guided reading group. They can easily access the materials and choose books that are appropriate to their reading levels. Students practice using the reading strategies they learned in their guided reading groups to decode words and comprehend text in the e-books. Students are able to help each other read the e-books when it's too difficult for them.
This project helped increase my student's reading levels over the past few months. It has also given me the opportunity to teach students in a small group, while other students independently read the e-books on the computer. Students enjoy navigating through the English Language Learner Çollection and reading many of the selections. We are so thankful that you all contributed to our project!Collection”

Thank you so much for your donation to our project. We used the primary sources from the collection you helped provide to research the 1920s in American history. The 1920s is an often overlooked decade in American history, especially in 8th grade Social Studies. But this is the decade where the United States tried to forget about World War I, Prohibition was in full swing, and there was a tremendous outpouring of culture from the Harlem Renaissance.
I had students choose topics from the 1920s, such as Hollywood and Entertainment, The Darker Side of the 1920s, Prohibition, Flappers, Inventions and Innovators, etc. Students used the primary sources that YOU helped fund to research, create a presentation, and then have a 1920s celebration in the gym so they could showcase their work.
Thank you so much for your generation donation! The kids had a lot of fun with this project and I am looking forward to doing it again in the years to come.
My students were all thrilled to receive the iPads purchased with your help! I received a chorus of "Too cool"s and "My friend has one, now I can use one too"s! They were all thrilled to find out how to adapt technology to meet their individual needs. With some of my schools, the students are not allowed to take school-provided assistive technology home, which makes doing online coursework, research projects, essays, and other such assignments difficult if not impossible to complete. With these devices, the students can take them home are read their book, write their essay, etc. Very exciting!
My low vision kids practice transferable visual skills in a fun and age-appropriate way, used a lighted magnifier that doesn't make them stand out, and, in the case of my infants, interact with the environment in a visually- and auditory-rewarding way. My blind school age students are using apps to identify objects they take pictures of, experience "driving", play audio games like archery and voiced mazes, connect with individuals who can help with visual tasks, downloaded digital books rather than carrying multiple volumes of braille books, use voice to text to take notes and write essays, use the internet to write research papers, and independently access the Edmodo online learning platform.
I'm sure that as we continue to utilize these tools, new and exciting uses will emerge. The students are already thrilled with the independence and richness the iPads have already added. We thank you all for your help. Some pictures have been posted. Best wishes!”
Team 313 cannot thank you all enough for donating to this project! Having a color printer has definitely helped our classroom come to life! Students are always thrilled when they get computer time; and can be observed researching, creating, and PRINTING information, graphic organizers, and projects that support their learning and thinking.
I use the color printer on a daily basis to make resources come alive for my students. A color photo of a volcano, snake, or the continents, is much more engaging and realistic. Photographs support vocabulary and increase student comprehension. Students are using so many words they did not know before, and are able to use images as an academic resource!
We LOVE our color printer!! Thank you! Thank you! Thank You!

To start, I need to thank you again for your amazing donations for our Radio City Music Hall Trip. My students could not stop talking about it from the moment I told them we were going, till even after the trip was finished! I am sure they are still talking and dreaming about it now. It was such an amazing, hands on learning experience for them. It was one they will never forget. I am sure that this trip will influence their studies and creativity for the rest of their lives.
The trip had an amazing beginning, from the sites they saw on the bus ride into Manhattan, till everything that was including on their Radio City Music Hall Tour. They each received their own ticket stub and tour pass lanyard that they could keep. Our tour guide Ms. T was very patient, being that my students had questions about everything! I have never seen them so engaged, and so curious about all that was in front of them. We had an amazing view of the stage from orchestra seats, as well as the last row on the 3rd floor mezzanine. We saw a brief video on the history of Radio City, and then finally got to meet and speak to a Rockette!
I think this field trip has boosted my students learning in many different ways. First, they now know what it takes on stage and off stage to put on a successful performance. They were able to see that by watching the stage hands work on stage, and by talking to an actual performer about how they perform. They asked so many amazing questions like, how do you still perform if you are in a bad mood? Is it better to work on a large stage or a small stage? This first hand experience will make them work harder in their own performance, as well as be more creative in the classroom.
Thank you again for what you have given my students. I will remember their faces and reactions forever. I know they will remember every piece of this trip as well.”

I can't thank you enough for supporting my classroom!! We were all so excited to learn that my Reading About The World project had been fully funded through your kindness and generosity. We received the non-fiction leveled books at the start of an exciting non-fiction reading and writing unit of study. Perfect timing!
My students usually browse the reading area every morning as they trickle into the classroom. Students will often make a beeline to find their favorite books. These brand new books have become the most popular choices in our class! They are always eager to read about a variety of topics available to them in the three new leveled baskets of books.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping my students gain a wealth of knowledge about the world through the beautiful collection of books!”
Thank you for funding my project entitled Engaging Nonfiction Needed. Your generous donation enabled me to purchase relevant nonfiction eBooks that both engage students and enhance the curriculum. These eBooks promote curriculum goals via current information that is grade-level appropriate and intriguing.
Upon receiving these electronic resources, I immediately imported them to our online catalog. I then notified teachers and students of the newly acquired nonfiction series. Several teachers have used these Britannica eBooks for instructional purposes as they enhance social studies, literature, and fine arts standards. Many students have thanked me for ordering updated nonfiction books that they can access on their iPads. The People You Should Know series is a definite favorite among the students as it spotlights famous athletes, artists, and musicians. Fortunately, these eBooks were purchased with unlimited use, thereby allowing multiple students to simultaneously access these titles for years to come. The possibilities for learning are truly endless!
In closing, I would like to thank you for your commitment to education. I am extremely grateful that your company values student success and is willing to advance achievement via generous donations. Your generosity is truly appreciated.”
Thank you so much for your donations to our classroom! My students were thrilled to receive brand new notebooks and supplies for their interactive math notebooks! Each student received a new notebook with his or her name on the cover. The notebooks have helped my students keep important information organized.
One thing we are working on in the 7th grade is organizing our middle school binders. With the addition of our math notebooks, all examples, notes, and resources are kept in one place for math class. Now that we are organized, we can quickly reference notes and examples from past units. This has been vital in making connections between our current and past topics of study.
I am filled with pride when I see my students reaching for their notebooks to use as a resource! We are just wrapping up the first half of our school year. We are looking forward to continue building our math toolbox with our awesome interactive notebooks!
Please take a look at the pictures from our classroom. I have included a few thank you notes from my 7th graders!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Repaci
