We need some Heroes to come save us before our tomatoes get squashed. I have created this giving page in hopes of helping projects that have 40 days or less remaining and are at least 50% funded. A lot of work, hope, desire, and need have gone into these projects and have already grown half way. Please help these projects grow to their full potential before they are squashed! Thank-You so much for being a HERO to these students and helping to support the 2011 Tomato Nation Contest.
  • Help Baltimore City School Students Receive Exciting Lessons

    Funded Apr 13, 2011

Thank you so much for donating to my classroom. This project has enabled me to introduce technology that enables students to engage visually in instruction and delve into background knowledge that enriches reading material and lessons. Students often demonstrate their learning by teaching their classmates via PowerPoint presentations. I often allow students to demonstrate revision and editing by connecting a document camera to the projector. The important piece of technology that you donated to my middle school classroom is still being used in the classroom and fills a deficit that exists because of a lack of funding for technology in my school. Your giving spirit is truly appreciated.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Lawrence

  • Using Technology To Help Struggling Students

    Funded May 15, 2011

Thank you so very much for donating to our project. I cannot tell you how much we appreciate your generosity. We have needed a laptop in this classroom for sometime now and the one that we just received is perfect.

My students have already been using the computer for many different activities. They love to get on the laptop to look up information for reports, play educational games, and learn new things. Many of my students do not have computers at home so this is a great opportunity for them to experience technology.

Due to the budget shortfall, we are not always able to get the technology that we need in schools. However, because of your donation, the students in my classroom are able to enjoy a new piece of technology that is giving them a window into the world around them.

Thank you again. Please know that you are appreciated!”

  • A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

    Funded Apr 14, 2011

This project has turned my classroom into a more multi-media experience for the children. With severe budget cuts from the state, and fewer resources each year creative lesson planning and projects have been more difficult. The camera you helped to provide has added an element of realism to the classroom. Instead of just talking about our reading and math levels, the students can see pictures of themselves moving up those ranks. Instead of just drawing illustrations for our writing, we can no go outside and find real world examples, and then use our computer literacy to insert the pictures into the writing.

The students' pictures have also allowed me to bridge the gap of some of my English Language Learners in that I can see what their reading is trying to say. By using the camera a picture truly does speak a thousand words, and the communication between myself and several of my students has been greatly improved.

My class and I thank you immensely for contributing to our project, and hope you will continue to donate to other projects from this amazing web site.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Goldberg

  • Chemistry and Technology

    Funded Apr 8, 2011

I wanted to thank you for your support in bringing technology to my classroom. My students recently used Vernier Labquest equipment in the lab.

They had to design a lab to test how abiotic factors, such as soil moisture, pH, and salinity, affect grass growth. The Labquests enabled my students to perform accurate tests and even graphed their data for them!

Prior to having this equipment in the lab, my students were using outdated CBL units that were designed and marketed in the 1990's! Now they are getting to use equipment that was just released in the past few years. It is teaching them about probeware and technology. The equipment is teaching me also! I have to use online tutorials to learn how to guide my students.

Thank you for bringing updated lab equipment to my students. I look forward to all the projects we are going to do in class with these items.

You have truly made a positive impact in the future of education. ”

  • Exploratory Science Lab for Powerful Learning Experiences

    Funded Apr 22, 2011

This is just a small token of our gratitude for your generous donation to our classroom. The materials for our new science lab will help all of our students in third, fourth, and fifth grade enhance their learning process.

Our school faces many budget cuts and financial obstacles, so your help is invaluable to all of our students, not only for this school year, but in the future. Science is important and carries across all curriculum's, and students will enjoy the lab as they strive for academic success. Again, thanks for your donation not only to my class, but to classrooms across the USA. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Ryan

  • From Magic Tricks to Pick up Sticks

    Funded Apr 12, 2011

Your donations have made a large impact to a small school. The students in my mentoring program have thoroughly enjoyed the projects you provided. They had the opportunity to work one on one with a community member and develop a deep relationship through a project they were able to complete together.

Last May, I had eleven students in the M&M Club (mentor & mentee) that graduated from elementary school and moved on to middle school. Those students could not say enough about the mentoring program that encouraged success, brought enjoyment through fun projects and provided a trusting adult that inspired them to meet their academic goals.

The yo-yo's, decorative coffee mugs, wooden sailboats, and wiki sticks contributed to each students' success. I was so excited to see the attendance from one student improve by 22 days in one school year! Our school benefited from the program as eight mentor students were taken off the targeted student list for math or reading.

Your support for our school program is greatly appreciated ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Karlin

  • Students Become Independent Readers!

    Funded Apr 12, 2011

I began using the materials with my students as soon as I received them. They arrived at the end of last school year. At that point, we had already taken our standardized tests. It was difficult to motivate the students to engage in reading activities, as it is typical of 5th graders to "check out" of school after the high-stakes testing is over. Not only did these new materials provide variety in my instruction, they motivated my students to continue working on their reading skills! I am excited to be able to use them with students this year. I know they're going to love the Hot Dots, and they will make great diagnostic tools for running records and quick comprehension checks. The independent stations are fun and provide authentic reading experiences, so I look forward to seeing this year's students benefit from them. Thank you for your very generous donations!”

  • Help Us Get An Elmo for Seeing Demos & Student Work

    Funded Apr 19, 2011

We have definitely been enjoying the Elmo document camera which arrived last spring. It is crystal clear with good color and contrast. Though it is rigid (not a gooseneck), it can be contorted into many angles with the many joints it has.

I place it on a multimedia cart and aim it at a Chemistry lab table surface. I've used it a number of times for chemical demonstrations. The Elmo allows even kids in the back to see what is happening up close. Just this past week I used it to show how to calibrate an instrument and get just the right number of digits off of it by reading its scale properly. The Elmo was able to project everything I was doing and seeing for all to see. The week before, I was working with small samples of semi-hazardous metals and was able to show up close to the whole class their appearance and properties like malleability and luster.

I do also use the Elmo document camera for documents! We can go over diagrams or problems from the book, worksheets, review student work together, etc. Last spring some of my classes used it to present their own projects to the class and discuss their work.

All in all, it's an excellent addition to our class and much appreciated.”

    Mr. Marten

  • All Ears Hear

    Funded Apr 8, 2011

Thank you so much for the timers and phones for use during our Daily Five activities in the classroom. The students are able to enjoy hearing themselves read. Along with that they can work on their fluency to make themselves better readers. These phones and timers are a critical part of our reading program. Students today are expected to be fluent second grade readers when they move on to third grade. These phones and timers help us accomplish this goal.

Another positive outcome of the timers and phones is that they create a management technique that allows the teacher to work with small groups while individual students work on their reading independently. It is our goal as teachers to teach skills and strategies that make students better readers. Thank you for contributing to this worth while project. ”

  • Vocabulary Power

    Funded Apr 16, 2011

Thank you very much for opening your hearts to donate to our classroom project. My students were so excited to get the boxes in the mail. When we opened the boxes, they begged to use the centers right away. They especially loved the Fishing for Phonics game. It was a big hit during center time.

These resources are very valuable in our classroom. They truly enhance the student's learning experience. It provided them with hands-on experiences to reinforce concepts. These resources will help future students as well.

Thank you again for your kind donation. It takes a special person to donate much needed supplies. You have helped many wonderful children learn. I truly appreciate your generosity!”
