  • Count with Me

    Funded Jun 10, 2011

It's always a great way to start the academic year with new curriculum materials . . . especially the kind of materials that give my students an opportunity to interact with them. Immediately, when my classroom staff placed the new math materials on our tables, my students gravitated to them as though there were new games to be played with. It has to help when the learning materials were very colorful and caught the eye of my students. An added bonus was that my students approached learning important pre-math skills such as measurement and weight, with the excitement of playing a game. When they were measuring with the links and inchworms, they were inadvertently learning comparative concepts and sort of competing with each other on who could make the longest link.

Thank you so very much for thinking of us in offering your support to public education! We look forward to using these "games" as a fun way to inadvertently teach math. ”

  • Wiping Away Board-dom!

    Funded May 10, 2011

I want to say a big thank you to everybody who helped my students obtain these wonderful learning tools. You took the time to give money to my students so they may enhance what they get out of the math lessons we do each day in class and you did so without any obligation--we are truly honored by this.

These whiteboards are going to give my students a chance to work problems and show their work while in a cooperative learning setting more easily than we have been able to before. Not only does this make learning more efficient, it makes it more fun too.

    Thank you for your generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Cox

  • Transform Reluctant Readers Into Ravenous Readers!

    Funded Jun 1, 2011

Thank you so very much for your contribution to our classroom library! Because of you, my students are becoming better readers.

These books have been flying off the shelves! My students love that these books are exciting, fairly short, written at their reading levels, but look like any other young adult book. I have students who are begging for extra reading time because they actually enjoy what they're reading. For some of my students, it may be the first time that they've successfully read a chapter book. My students are making great gains in reading this year, partly because they are reading more.

I truly appreciate what you have done for my classroom. Thank you for supporting my students and a wonderful organization like DonorsChoose. ”

  • Hot Dots Of Fun!!

    Funded Oct 10, 2011

Thank you so much for donating to my Hot Dots of Fun project! My students and I are both very grateful for your support and dedication to education!

The Hot Dots set that you helped purchase for my classroom has been a huge success! The students LOVE using this fun, interactive reading comprehension activity. The best part about the center though, is that it provides the students with instant feedback! This allows them to automatically correct any misconceptions that they might have regarding a reading skill.

We use this center activity on a weekly basis in our classroom. While everyone in general likes center time, I often find that the students will beg me to use this particular center.

Thanks again for your support and generosity! My students and I both appreciate it!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Morris

  • We Can Have Fun and Be Awesome (While Learning!)

    Funded May 30, 2011

We just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who helped fund our "Have fun and be awesome" flip cam project! We have only had the flip cams for a short time but they have already impacted our classroom and the other fifth grade classrooms in many ways. These cameras have been used to supplement instruction, have allowed us to have students film and critique their own work, have enhanced our writer's workshop by providing students with motivation to produce "film-able" pieces of work, and have allowed us to really push our instruction to the next level. These cameras are kid-friendly, easy to use, and very sturdy. They have been an asset in our classroom and we are truly thankful for your generosity in helping us to purchase them!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Smith

  • Social Skills for Life

    Funded Sep 10, 2011

Thank you so much for contributing to the needs of the children at our school. Each day every child that comes to my classroom is able to use the materials that you contributed helped provide to them. Whether it is through tactile social skills or an interactive computer tool, the children are able to better learn social skills through a learning medium that fits their needs.

I even have some students begging for more! It is such a joy seeing the smile on their face when they know they are able to partake in the activities you helped provide.

The children are grateful for your contribution and understand the value of having your support in their education.

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Holden

  • FEED USA is Feeding My Students Language & Literacy!

    Funded Oct 19, 2011

Thank you so much for your generosity and for supporting my students! These learning resources have made such an impact on my students learning.

My students participate in literacy centers everyday where they are given a choice of 8 activities, where they will choose one activity each day until they have completed all activities. The new games and centers that this project funded have been a hit during center time! My students have loved playing the games, practicing their sight word knowledge, and expanding their vocabularies. During centers, my paraprofessional and I are able to work with individual students and/or group of students. Through the use of these games and activities we have been able to engage the students in discussions regarding healthy eating, different types of foods, food groups, exercising, and living a healthy lifestyle.

My students and I are so appreciative of your donations and for providing us with amazing new learning tools. ”

  • Toon Us Up Please

    Funded May 3, 2011

Thank you so much for helping fund our project. My students have absolutely LOVED the graphic novels. I have loved watching them devour them. We actually had to develop a waiting list so that they could all have a 'fair' turn to read them. I have had to learn to be very observant during our whole group lessons because one or two of the students have been known to 'sneak' their graphic novel into their reading workbook. As much as I want to be upset, it secretly thrills me to see their desire to keep reading for enjoyment.

When one of our 5th grade social studies teachers saw one of the books in the Graphic America series, she immediately asked to borrow them as they reach each topic. It makes my students feel so proud that they had access to them first.

Again, I thank you for the donations that made this project a reality. You have helped me to help the 34 students that I am working with this year.”

  • From Our Fingers to Our Toes...We Are Moving!

    Funded Oct 5, 2011

I cannot fully express my gratitude for the generosity you have shown toward my students. The newly added physical fitness resources have been a huge hit in my classroom!

Everyday my students participate in a program called Boost Up. This is a gross motor program that incorporates opportunities for physical movement, helps to improve hand-eye coordination and helps to stimulate the left and right side of the brain. The balance and flexibility kit is used nearly on a daily basis. This kit provides exercises and activities to improve coordination, balance, and flexibility. Another favorite of my students have been the ball toss games. They love playing these activities during recess time. Another part of our daily includes fine motor skills development where students have opportunities to engage in activities to improve muscle tone in their fingers and hands. The sand and water table provides opportunities for student to work with various substances such as oatmeal, sand, water, beans, beads, and other sensory items.

Thank you again for supporting my students and providing them with activities to stimulate their brain activity and improve their overall physical fitness level. ”
