It is with mixed emotions that I am participating in Mustaches for Kids. That's right, for the next four weeks, I will be subjecting myself to public humiliation and private doubt by growing what will no-doubt be a ridiculous looking Mustache. In order to justify this endeavor I need your support. Please sponsor my Mustache by picking a classroom project from the list below to support. And wish me and my Mustache luck. • Molding Mathematical Minds

    Funded Feb 1, 2011

Thank you for supporting our project Molding Mathematical Minds. The materials that you provided have given my students the opportunity to work with hands-on mathematical materials. They enjoy working cooperatively and have had a lot of fun learning math this year. The materials that you have donated gave my students practice creating patterns, graphs, sorting and comparing. They have also been exposed to quality literature illustrating core mathematical concepts. I am looking forward to many years using the materials that you have provided. Thank you so mush for your generosity and support. The kids think that you are 'awesome'!!!”

  • Can I Write My Name?

    Funded Feb 6, 2011

Your generous donation has made my students extremely happy. They love the fact that they have their own workbooks in their desks instead of copies of sheets. They are eager to work in their handwriting books when they complete a task. It has made such a difference in their self-esteem and I was able to purchase 3 different handwriting levels to meet all their particular needs and still give them a feeling of accomplishment. The starter kit has tremendously helped several of my students, who until I received your generous gift could only write their own names and not very legible. They are now writing many words and sentences and are so proud of themselves. I just want to extent my utmost gratitude for your gift, which will have at lasting effect for my students for the rest of their lives. ”

  • Dreams in Rainbows for Urban Kids

    Funded Feb 11, 2011

I wanted to take this moment to share a story with you. It is about a student who came into my room to get a picture for an art project - two days after the printer arrived and was set up. The student wanted to share a favorite recipe for our cross-cultural week.

When the image printed on the Xerox Phaser 6280, the student got the paper and looked at the page - seeing the colors ablaze, and then stopped to think. With a bright thought in his/her eye and a smile from ear to ear, the student said to me, "Ms. S, I can do a lot with this." And that is how this time has been. Our students have launched a myriad of projects and wonders in how their creations are possible in color. We were in time to help our Science Fair come to life, and as you can see from the photos, color is everywhere in our urban landscape!

Thanks to your generosity we are able to create possibilities, ideas into drafts, drafts into projects, and projects into accomplishments. Thanks to your attention and dollars, our children have much more beautiful pages to post on the walls for the school, and to bring home to their families. You brought color and life into our world here at school, and into our community.

I cannot thank you enough, and hope that in future DonorsChoose projects, I can count on you and your friends and networks to make my wonderful students' dreams come true in color (and many other real-life experiences) for a long long time.

    Thank you so much again.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Stern

  • Who Says it's not Rocket Science?

    Funded Mar 30, 2011

What a thrill it was to receive these wonderful materials! My first reaction was amazement that they are of such high quality that they will last long, long time. Of course the students (and some of the teachers, too) could not wait to explore and examine everything. The kids even asked me if they could use their recess time to experiment with them.

Through these materials they will better understand concepts that would otherwise be very difficult for them. Inspecting the insect specimens allows them to experience them in 3-D -- so much more interesting than looking at a photo in a book. The magnetism materials are fantastic. The children are amazed that a magnetic ring can float suspended in midair. The rock collection is great because the specimens are not glued to a piece of cardboard. The children can touch and feel them, and categorize them in many different ways, and they are fascinated by the liquid discovery tubes. I could go on and on.

Although the materials arrived after our last Family Science Workshop of the school year, we are planning an extra evening in late May to give our families a chance to explore and have fun with all of the new learning tools we have thanks to all of you. The children are already looking forward to our next Family Science night in September.

Taking science out of the textbook and putting it into the hands of children is the best way to ensure lifelong learning. Thank you so much for your interest in this project and your generous help.”

  • Differentiation in Science and Reading Comprehension

    Funded Feb 5, 2011

    Greetings and Salutations,

Time seems to have flown since we received the materials and began our quest into a new science module and further explorations, as well as began engaging in the hands on activity ideas that the book on differentiating provided. Students thoroughly enjoyed planning their habitats and watching their seeds grow. They grew in their understanding of how to make accurate scientific observations, while also marveling, and pondering over the questions of why various things such as mold, moisture, wilting, and so forth were occurring in their terrariums.

Students also loved the Differentiated reading materials and playing classroom Jeopardy with fellow classmates. Their content knowledge builds each time we play and their excitement to be in first place grows with each experience.

Thank you again, you generous hearted people. And may you be blessed!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Battle

  • The Reality of The United States and The World

    Funded Feb 15, 2011

We send you a huge thank you for your donations to our classroom maps. The maps have made a major improvement in how we study Social Studies.

We have used them to find countries that have rainforests and to locate countries across the equator. The US map has taught the students the location of our state in relation to other states. We have also learned the 7 continents using the world map, especially the location of North America. The possibilities are endless to what we can learn and how we can use these maps.

These possibilities would not be available if it wasn't for donors like you again we say thank you to all of you. ”

    Ms. Lucid

  • Mr. I Class Library of Excellence!

    Funded Feb 7, 2011

We have just recently started to receive our Novels from our project. When the order arrived my Principal called me to the main office to inform me that he needed my assistance to move some things around. So like the Team player that I am I went down during my lunch period to help out. When I approached the office I saw him standing near rather large box smiling. My principal looked up at me and said "You guys really did it! " He was very impressed by you generous gifts to help our students.

I picked up the large box and started to returned to my classroom. I then stopped turned around and went right for the Cafeteria where my students just started to eat their lunch. When I walked into the cafeteria they looked at me like they were in trouble. When I showed them the box at one time they said "Is it the books" when I replied "Yes!" they started to cheer very loud.

When we got back to the classroom I could not carry on with my lesson due to their excitement. There are reading and sharing more than ever. I now have other students from other classes coming asking to borrow the novels. So you did not only help my class you helped lift the spirits of a whole school. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Inverso

  • LeapFrog Readers in Kindergarten

    Funded Jan 31, 2011

I can't fully express the joy and excitement of the entire class that our project was funded. Thank you so much for all your generosity and making our dreams come true.

The children were so excited to receive our new material. The LeapFrog Station is the number one hit! Every student can't wait to get their turn there. I have already seen some improvement in some of the children. It is a complete joy to see their eyes glow while they are following the story or when they discover a new letter or sound.

These materials will help them grow and continue to blossom with reading.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Irving

  • Getting Smart Through Art

    Funded Feb 2, 2011

THANK YOU ALL so very much for your kindness and contributions. Can you imagine a school with no art? Thanks to you we don't have to.

Our kindergrtners have already begun painting and utilizing the supplies that we received earlier. It is wonderful to see them express themselves and what they are learning. With your added supplies even more students will be able to paint together. Our easels are easy to use and so versatile, and our paint cups allow us to save paint between uses. Also - NO SPILS! The kids love the chubby paintbrushes in their little hands too. Thank you so very much for your support and generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher
