  • Give Them a Reading Tool to Help Themselves and Others

    Funded Nov 20, 2008

I am so pleased that my classroom's needs have inspired your contribution. My students are genuinely thrilled at the prospects of creating audio books for classroom and community use. These students thrive on kinesthetic activities with a practical application. These digital recorders will foster their desire to read aloud. They will also provide the students with immediate feedback so that they may reflect upon the fluency and accuracy with which they read. In addition, these devices will inspire confidence within readers of varying abilities as they create audio books for younger children and senior citizens within our community. Thank you again for your generosity; your financial gift will add to the learning experience of many at-risk teens for years and years to come”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. M.

  • "Why Do You Say, 'Alsooo? Ya Know. Cool! Alsooo?'"

    Funded Dec 24, 2008

Oh my goodness! I cannot believe our luck! I have never received any funding on here before, and this is truly amazing!! I have been waiting and wanting for my students to do all of the projects that I have dreamed up in using the iPod system. We still need, and have the dream, to use this in our own Listening Center, a favorite among the four grade levels I teach.

I want to strongly impress upon you the inspiring and motivating gift of music you are giving to my 116 students, plus the ones who will be with me in years to come! I believe so strongly in the power of music, especially within our inner-city culture, as it can be a catalyst for success in learning. Everyday, I receive new students who are struggling to learn the language and culture, and who will deeply appreciate the chance to learn both simultaneously.

I have yet to inform my students of our expected surprise. I am, too excited to stand still, and am sure that my students will be as well. But, I promise you that when the time comes for me to reveal the surprise, the reaction shall be grand! As the holidays have passed, I learned how few of my students received gifts at all, or even necessary items in preparation of winter, like coats, and thus, this luxury will be appreciated tenfold what you are probably assuming.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Until next time, I remain ever grateful, ever enthused, and surfing iTunes on the Net!

    Sincerely,

    Beth S

  • Listen to Me Read

    Funded Dec 19, 2008

What a great blessing to start the new year! Thank you very much for your contribution to my students' learning. Building reading fluency is an important factor in developing strong readers. The digital voice recorder is a great piece of technology that will help my students monitor their own progress in reading fluency. By listening to themselves read on the recording, they will hear their reading miscues and recognize what they need to work on. I think self-assessment will help my students be more reflective about their education and feel invested to progress in their learning. Thank you again for your generous donation!

    Sincerely,

    Christin”

Thank you so much for the wonderful gift for my students. I have just completed the assessment process, and many of my students will become more proficient readers and writers. I really look forward to teaching my students to use the digital voice recorders to help organize their thoughts.

Thank you again for donating the money to make this a reality for my students.

    Sincerely,
