  • CSI Forensics! Dead Ahead!

    Funded Nov 12, 2011

Thank you so much for the forensics lesson plans and materials for my students. My school is a Title I school with a high military population of students who continuously move and change schools. These students need materials that truly interest and engage them, and the materials that you have donated have done just that!

With your help, my students are learning mathematic and scientific concepts through the study of forensics and they have enjoyed every minute of it! You have helped to create a spark and love for learning in each of my students that will stay with them along their entire educational career.

My students and I sincerely thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Henley

  • Rockin' Readers

    Funded Nov 12, 2011

THANK YOU SO MUCH for supporting this project - amazing family, old friends, and new friends! My Co-teachers, my staff, and I are so excited to use the new phonics books and CDs with our students each week. This includes 26 students and over 15 staff members.

With the help of these new materials, the students' phonics knowledge and reading abilities have improved. Our students are being exposed to the same curriculum that their general education peers are. The smiles you have helped create by donating these items is contagious! Thank you!”

  • Capturing Moments and Milestones

    Funded Nov 12, 2011

The Sony camera is one of my favorite items I have had funded through Donors Choose. I've found so many opportunities to use the camera in my classroom. From class parties, to musicals, to learning, I have it all on camera. Living in a military town, being able to take and share pictures of my students is important. We can share pictures across the miles with parents that are deployed. In some small way it closes the distance between parent and child.

I have taken the camera on our field trips and captured the kids in action. As you will see in the pictures, they were having a blast at a science museum. The kids enjoyed posing for pictures on the bus and shhhh...but I captured a few cap naps as well. Recently, I uploaded pictures of my students for our school yearbook. Now they will have memories of 4th grade to savor for a lifetime.

I appreciate your donations. Our classroom is grateful to have such generous people supporting our learning. This camera will be used for years to come and will be a valuable tool in capturing the fun and learning that takes place each day.

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. West

  • First Grade Fundamentals!

    Funded Nov 13, 2011

I appreciate your generosity towards my class project. The listen & Learn Phonics center, CD player, and minute timers will help my first grade students practice reading skills as they listen to letter/sound combinations, stories, and use the timers to practice fluency. The foundation of first grade is learning to read. My students are working on comprehension, accuracy, fluency, and expanding their vocabulary. We are off to a great start in our First grade classroom because you are ensuring our success. My students will achieve and master their standards with the wonderful materials we received through your donations. Thank you!”

  • Multiplying Math Manipulatives Make Amazing Memories

    Funded Nov 11, 2011

I just wanted to let you know how entirely grateful I am to you all for donating what you did toward the math games and manipulatives we now have in our classroom. These tools have helped create hands-on experiences in our classroom thus far in the areas of measurement, geometry, multiplication, and number sense. They have been used in three different third grade classrooms as well as a second grade classroom. They have helped some brand new teachers to these grade levels (with very limited supplies) help teach their students in ways they couldn't have without them.

The level of enthusiasm, interest, and excitement these tools have also fostered in teaching these concepts has made a world of difference as well. We even had a class party where the students could have chosen from a variety of activities; the consensus was to pull out all of our new games and rotate around the room playing them.

The types of tactile experiences these tools have created could not have been replicated through any number of math books or worksheets. Thank you so much for what you have done. You will never fully understand the difference you have made. ”

  • The Musical World of Books

    Funded Nov 11, 2011

Thank you so much for your donations towards this project! These books have brought a light to my students eyes as I bring them out to read. The younger students are so quiet as I read the books and then I adapt them to bring music to the certain books.

As I read Caps for Sale today we were singing and identifying who has a certain color of shirt with my pre-k classes today. They had so much fun jumping up and singing beautifully "I have a red shirt". They really enjoy also If you give a pig a pancake. First because of the fun props that are with it and then for everything item added we used an instrument and every time that word was said they got to play an instrument.

Of course they loved the 5 little monkeys sitting in a tree because the tree and the crocodile is so cool. They loved being able to count the monkeys and put them on the tree.

With the other books I have been able to add them into the older grades center time and they really enjoy having more books in my classroom library.

Thank you again for all your donations and these books have been such a wonderful addition to my classroom!”

  • Help Our students Record the Album: Ultimate Panther Jams

    Funded Nov 11, 2011

Thank you for supporting our students in their endeavor into recording music. Students have begun using Garage Band and thanks to your contributions, we now have a recording studio that uses the equipment purchased through this project. Students can also use the studio record themselves reading in order to listen to their reading.

It's a great opportunity for students to be able to use nice equipment that they would have at their high school or college at the elementary level. The Library is a great, centrally located area where students can set up times to record a song or create a story using the studio. Later this year, we'll publish our songs on our Library Website.

I sincerely appreciate your donation towards music technology in public education. Students really shine when given the avenue and opportunity to express themselves through music.”

  • Aspiring Scientist in the Making

    Funded Nov 12, 2011

Since receiving our lab coats, students have been inspired to be more "professional" during our science lab activities. They take their role as learner so much more serious yet are having much more fun measuring, observing, and hypothesizing. Sometimes I hear them calling each other by Dr. _______ and I think that somehow it makes the idea or dream of becoming a doctor real and possible. The feeling that there is science and math doesn't have to be boring pencil and paper work and that true discovery can be exciting.

Since my students have had such a great time wearing these lab coats during science lab activities, they felt that all students should experience it too. Today every student at every grade level who attend the science lab get use our lab coats for their own discovery, so your generous and thoughtful gift is actually benefiting most of our students. For this, I cannot thank you enough. Thank you so much for thinking of others. ”

  • Little Learners Magic Letter Carpet

    Funded Nov 16, 2011

Our new classroom rug is awesome! I would like to thank you for your very generous contributions to my Donors' Choose project! My students are so excited about having such a colorful and cozy addition to our classroom.

The beautiful rug provides a comfortable place for all of my children to sit and learn! Numbers, letters, and vibrant colors give us a great visual learning tool. We have used the rug to practice identifying letters of the alphabet, to match capital and small letters, and to practice identifying beginning and ending letters in words. It has also been a wonderful place to practice reading in small groups or to work in literacy centers! We have used the numbers on the rug in ordinal number lessons and to match numbers and number words.

I've only mentioned a few of our "rug" activities but, foresee many years of your gift making a difference in our classroom. I appreciate your kindness and support toward students and staff of Wayne County!”

  • Helping Military Kids Connect through Reading!

    Funded Nov 11, 2011

Thank you so much for your generosity! I cannot begin to express the impact these books have had on my classroom, the other first grade classrooms, and even our third grade book buddies. This year our district has chosen to jump feet first into the Common Cores standards. We have struggled with incorporating literature into our math lessons. The math books purchased through your donation has made it possible for us to connect literature to math. We are able to activate our student's schema, using the books donated by you, and then move forward into our lessons. Our students are excelling at math this year and I attribute this to the wonderful literature you have provided us with. Not all of the books were math based but all of the books have been poured over by students. Our students asked to take the books to meet with our third grade book buddies and together they read the books. They are building friendships and camaraderie though literature!

We are so thankful to have these books in our classroom and I know that my students are building connections to various subjects because of the generous donors like YOU!”
