I cannot express how grateful I am for your donation to my 6th grade classroom. My students are benefiting from these dictionaries in major ways. I have noticed that my students can spell more words accurately, have increased their vocabulary greatly, and no longer rely on me to spell unfamiliar words for them. They take ownership for their education and smile when they have figured out how to spell, define, and or pronounce words daily. These dictionaries have definitely been a huge help.
My students also think twice before asking me the spelling of meaning of a word. They know that they should go to the dictionary first before asking me. My students also challenge me with some of the definitions of words and what I believe it means and what the word really means. They love it when I am wrong and they get to correct me. Thank you so much!”
Today is New Year's Day, and I have been hoping for something special to bring with me for my kids when school begins in a few days...your gift of In Cold Blood is going to be exactly that! I sent them off on winter break with Jane Eyre, and while I love her and know that my students will come to appreciate her (with time and hand-holding), there was much eye-rolling and ill-concealed whining...when they find out that the next novel we'll read will be the one they asked for, they will be beyond thrilled! And, when we get started on all the activities I have for researching crime and the killer mentality, as well as the creative approach used by Capote, they will finally be able to see art as life/life as art...
But, more than anything else, my students will be grateful to you as people who, in these tough economic times, believe in them enough to give of yourselves.
I am so happy you have made this possible for my kids-and can't wait to get started!
Happy New Year!
Most Sincerely-

This classroom project was brought to life by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and 2 other donors.
I am thrilled to have received funding for "Literacy, what an adventure." I am so very excited to get the ball rolling on this project. My students are making amazing progress this year already and with the materials, they will continue to soar. One of my students has jumped from a "D" reading level to a "J." He will be reaching grade level very shortly. Your kindness is overwhelming. We are so excited to dive into the books that you have provided. Know that you have touched our lives through your generosity!
Sincerely,
