It is with mixed emotions that I am participating in Mustaches for Kids. That's right, for the next four weeks, I will be subjecting myself to public humiliation and private doubt by growing what will no-doubt be a ridiculous looking Mustache. In order to justify this endeavor I need your support. Please sponsor my Mustache by picking a classroom project from the list below to support. And wish me and my Mustache luck. • Ball Chairs

    Funded Feb 23, 2011

I want to express my gratitude for all your generous donations to my classroom. The exercise balls that we now use for chairs have benefited my students in all sorts of ways. While setting at their tables the students are able to sit for a longer period of time then when in regular chairs, their more attentive while working on their academics, they also help get all their "wiggles" out, not to mention how much fun they have sitting on them.

Without everyone's help, this experience (ball chairs) would have never been possible. Thank you everyone for supporting this idea. What started out to be an experiment for the students, has turned into a everyday necessity that will be used by all my students for years to come.

Thank you again to everyone, without donations from generous people like you our students would never experience all the amazing ideas and materials that are out there to enhance our learning. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Henn

  • Developing Critical Thinking Skills Through Chess

    Funded Feb 26, 2011

These materials were critical to my students being able to relax and learn after the state testing days. They needed something to relax with and this really was perfect for them. It was perfect because it still had them learning. I regret to say that I did not have them write impact letters because of how our schedule worked out and that is truly my fault alone. I can tell you though that they enjoyed these materials very thoroughly. They learned different ways to start a chess game and finish. They learned the value of each piece and how they can overcome adversity. This carried through in their lives and with their school work. They didn't give up quite as easily and really strived to do their best at all times.

    Thank you again!

  • From Junk Food to Healthy Snacks! Creating Healthy Kids!

    Funded Mar 4, 2011

Thank you so much for your gracious donation to my classroom. The money that you donated went towards learning materials and kitchen tools for our healthy classroom snack initiative. We've used the books, games, and mixers to enrich our yummy weekly lessons. The kids loved trying the different things that we made and tried- fruit smoothies, hummus, kabobs, etc. This has truly been an eye-opening experience for all of us! Without your help, these students would never have had the opportunity to learn about different foods and the importance of a healthy lifestyle! We all can't wait to do it again next year! :)”

  • Recording Device for Student with Dyslexia

    Funded Feb 23, 2011

I cannot thank you enough for your immense generosity in providing this amazing gift to our student. The recording device has been extremely helpful in building Miguel's confidence, especially in Science and Social Studies, and has made him better realize his strengths rather than focusing on weaknesses. We were able to successfully add the device to his Individualized Education Plan so he is able to use it in all academic classes, and his friends relate it to something from spy movies so it is not stigmatizing, as I feared it could be. In addition, we showed Miguel the donorschoose.org page to share with him all of your comments and the donations that were made just for him. He could not contain his smile or his blushing cheeks. It was really a great moment.

Miguel has had so many things go against him this school year, and it has meant so much that this was something positive he could hold on to. He is such an amazing student and person, and providing him with a gift that will help showcase his abilities is invaluable.

Thank you again for your generosity, your shared passion for education, and your dedication to special education students. It means so much. ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Kenny

  • Please, Please, Please, Help us Get Organized!

    Funded Mar 25, 2011

I wanted to take this opportunity to that all of you for your contribution to my classroom project. The materials have greatly improved the organization in the room, especially all of the worksheets we have to keep track of for the labs we do. What an improvement! We have three textbooks to keep track of in our classroom as well, so the bookshelf enables us to have the textbooks available, but not cluttering up the desks. I know my students are truly grateful for your contributions. They are not used to having people take notice of them and spend money on their education. This gesture instills confidence in them to work harder to make use of the materials you helped in acquiring.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Riley

  • Calculators Desperately Seeking Batteries

    Funded Mar 1, 2011

Thank you!  The batteries that you donated arrived in time for the big state test.  My students were now on the same playing field as other students taking the state test.

But it is what we have been able to do on a daily basis.  The students have been able to learn some very complicated algebra and statistics using the calculators.  It has been a joy watching the students work with the calculators and to see the look of self-satisfaction when they have been able to complete a task.

If it was not for your generosity none of this would have been possible.  Needing batteries seems like a simple thing, but it had a major impact on my students.  Thank you so much.

  • Help, Our Robot Wants To Be Artistic

    Funded May 31, 2011

First I want to thank you all for all of your support in completing this project. More people need to be as supportive of education. The students are our future, and we need to support them. The items will be used by the students to expand their minds. They will use them for all of our robotic competitions that require poster displays. They display the process of how we built the robot and any information about the topic for that years competition. Since many of our arts programs are being canceled, this gives them exposure to the arts.

Thank you again for your support.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Niemiec

  • Let's Heat Things Up!

    Funded Mar 2, 2011

    Thank you for your

generous donation to my classroom. The thermometers that you donated are

helping my students learn how to use scientific tools for measurement and data

collection purposes. My students are able to then analyze their results and make

meaning from real-world experiments that they constructed and performed.

This type of data analysis engages them more than using data already

available. It helps to immerse my students in scientific thought and

develop critical reasoning skills necessary for academic growth and

    achievement.

    Like many school today,

our school district is facing a budget shortfall. Many of the supplies

that would help students meet benchmark achievement have not been ordered to

help save money. So, without your donation my students would not have

these resources to academically prepare them for success.

    Thank you once again.

Donors like you make learning more tangible and interactive for students! ”

  • Team Sports Medicine Balls for Softball and Hockey

    Funded Feb 25, 2011

Thank you so much for the medicine balls. We have already put them to use. Students were surprised that they had so much weight. The cards were perfect in demonstrating different exercises with the students. We appreciate your support in physical fitness. Students realize the importance of exercise and having a healthy lifestyle. There were several great projects to choose from in DonorsChoose, and we are grateful that you chose our project. Thank you again!”

  • Teaching Our Youngest to Read with Nonfiction

    Funded Mar 14, 2011

Thank you so much for supporting our nonfiction project here at school! The kids were so excited as the books began to come in. They were immediately attempting to read them and trying to figure out what the books were about. We've already begun researching some of the topics the books teach! The children haven been able to engage in writing, math, science, AND reading activities thanks to your generosity! Thank you for supporting these young kids and helping them to building vocabulary and background knowledge”
