It's that time of year again folks...participation in Mustaches for Kids. That's right, for the next four weeks, I will be subjecting myself to public humiliation and private doubt by growing what will no-doubt be a ridiculous looking Mustache. In order to justify this endeavor I need your support. Please sponsor my Mustache by picking a classroom project from the list below to support. And wish me and my Mustache luck. • A Long Walk to Water Novel Set-Be a Part of Water for Sudan!

    Funded Mar 3, 2011

Please accept this letter, student photographs, and thank you notes as a small token of my appreciation for your generous gift to my classroom. The class set of the book, A Long Walk to Water, has been a powerful addition to my language arts curriculum. My 100 middle school students and I have read, written, discussed, and acted out sections of the book. As we've practiced literacy skills we've also learned about recent events taking place in Sudan.

Currently our school has a freeze on spending money for new classroom sets of books. Your donation was the reason my students were able to experience this new and powerful young adult text. On behalf of teachers that are grappling with how to provide new and engaging resources for their students, I thank you for your support of public education.”

    With gratitude,

  • Plants to Paper and Back Again! Process of Recycling Paper.

    Funded Feb 12, 2011

I want to express my appreciation for your generosity in support of the paper making project at our school. Your personal commitment was incredibly helpful and allowed us to reach our goal of learning about the processes of making and recycling paper.

Your assistance means so much to me but even more to my students. Because of your generosity, my students have learned about important topics on the environment, recycling, reusing, artist that discuss these issues, and the paper making process through an engaging hands on learning experience that they will cherish for a long time.

Each student has walked away from this lesson with a better understanding on the importance of preserving our environment. This is a positive lesson that each student will keep with them forever and will in turn positively affect the rest of their lives and has been the favorite project of many students this year. Thank you from all of us. Thank you to all of you that donated! ”

    With gratitude,

  • Keeping Kindergartners In Touch With The World

    Funded Mar 8, 2011

Thank you for donating to this grant and making it a reality. The students enjoy reading the Weekly Readers and looking at the brightly colored photographs. They enjoy being able to take the Weekly Readers home to share with their siblings and other family members.

Their favorite issues are those that contain vivid pictures of animals in action. They re intrigued by the details of the animals as well as the colors. Next year's kindergarten students will also benefit from Weekly Reader thanks to your continuation of the subscription.”

  • Global Awareness

    Funded Feb 4, 2011

I can't even begin to tell you how much excitement has been in the air in my classroom since we received your donation. My students have been recording short video clips of questions they have for other children and they are now communicating with children in another state. They absolutely love the camera and everyday they are asking me if they can post a video for their "video pal". This project has really given my students the opportunity to think at a higher level. The instructions they have been given is that when asking a question to their video pal it has to be a higher level of thinking question. I have provided them with key words and they are to use these words when creating their questions. This overall has been an exciting experience!:)”

  • Conformity vs. Individuality: Empowering Students

    Funded Feb 17, 2011

Your incredible generosity has absolutely astounded me. I'm a first-year teacher of tenth-grade English who began teaching in the middle of a school year. I walked into a classroom containing unknown resources, and was shocked to find very little material that the students could relate to. Your gift of Brave New World will give the students material that has a universal theme, and which presents the theme in language they can understand. The students and I want to extend our genuinely heartfelt thanks to you all. You have made a difference in all of our lives. ”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher
