I love to win...you all know that. Usually, winning happens through lots of hard work. No matter how hard I work on this one, I can't seem to grow a respectable mustache. I've learned that I cannot really grow facial hair in an organized manner. It is more like a whisker here, a whisker there. This just makes me look like I have dirt above my lips or that I actually believe what is above my lips passes for a mustache. Either way, not really a good look for a principal. Luckily, ... more

There are some great projects on my growing page that will directly benefit our students. Please donate and let's try to be the highest funding total in Baltimore. - Marc Martin hide
  • 3rd Grade Newsies!

    Funded May 7, 2011

The teachers and staff at our school share a common belief that every day, all materials and every ounce of effort is to be dedicated to our students' best interest. However, we cannot take on this mission alone. Thank you for your generous donation to help enhance our learning in the classroom.

Our 3rd Grade Newsies successfully printed 3 editions last year of the CJR Star! With the materials you donated, our young reports felt encouraged and excited to learn about the writing process! Using the 5 W's and 1H; interviewing staff and local professionals; organizing student written text in a logical format; and using creativity to come up with fabulous articles and headlines – the students felt empowered and took great ownership in their final products! Nothing beats seeing your name in print!

Again thank you for your kindness and support in our mission as teachers. Together, we will build a very bright future, full of excellent communicators, problems solvers and extraordinary citizens who are also inspired to make contributions of their own.

    Sincerely, ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Carmichael

  • Listen Up! It's Time To Read

    Funded Apr 15, 2011

Thank you very much for your generous donation to our classroom. The students love listening to books on CDs. This has helped to motivate the students to read more books during Silent Reading Time. I have been told by some of my students that their favorite part of the day is when they get to visit our new "Listening Library." These new books have helped to build comprehension skills and a new found love of reading.

As a teacher, I am truly thankful for people who take the time to make donations that will impact our future generations. Thank you very much for helping to fund this project.”

    With gratitude,

  • For the Girls Who Just Want to be Grown Up

    Funded Dec 15, 2010

Thank you all so much for generously donating these books for my middle school girls! My students are so eager to grow up and many of them are seeking out role models that they can look up to. The figures in these books, whether fictional or real, provide incredible examples for teenage girls growing up today. They wrestle with real issues, make tough decisions, and serve as excellent sources for discussion. I'm excited to use these sets of books with the different middle school female-only advisory groups. I know that we will all learn a lot!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Flores

  • Good Readers and Great Artists!

    Funded Mar 7, 2011

Thank you, thank you all for your incredible generosity! I absolutely love teaching Art. My students are so creative and inventive, and are eager to take on new projects and challenges. This year I have had a lot of success with using great children's literature in connection with our projects. I'm particularly excited to use these Caldecott Award winning books with my primary and intermediate level students. We are going to examine the different methods that artists use to illustrate a storyline, and then the students will illustrate different stories on their own. Thank you so much for giving my students a beautiful foundation of literature to build upon.”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher

  • Learning Through Art!

    Funded Mar 31, 2011

Thank you for your generosity and contribution to my classroom. The students have started using the art supplies in the class, and are also very appreciative!

Recently we were able to use the supplies to create meaningful foldables to help support understanding of a science project. Some fourth grade students also decided to enter the science fair this year, and the supplies helped to make their projects come alive!

In addition, the construction paper, crayons and glue sticks were used in first grade to produce their very own published "books" about the current language arts unit, complete with pictures and dialog, to enhance their writing skills. They also designed their very own game boards, complete with rules, directions, and games pieces and the board. It was a smashing success!

Some of my eighth graders were able to create maps with the supplies to help them understand the relationship between Africa and the United States during lessons on slavery.

Some students were able to assemble fraction sundaes to enforce understanding of fractions in math.

Students have been able to manufacture, create, build, and conceive all sorts of projects, assignments and skill building tasks in class and out ~ thanks to wonderful donors like you!”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher

  • We Love Listening to Great Books!

    Funded May 2, 2011

We only received our listening centers a week ago, but already it has made an impact on the students. They listen to a story every day on CD and follow along as they "read" our books-on-tape at the same time as they "hear" the words being read to them! The kids love it, and feel so independent and motivated to read on their own.

I have also created a listening center for the students to choose as an activity during free choice learning time, and almost all the students choose the listening center every day! They love the new technology in the classroom, and enjoy books that they were not able to read on their own.

I am so thankful to the donors who believed in this project and who have made a difference in these students' lives! Thank you ... from all of us!!”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher

  • Creative Kids on the Carpet

    Funded Dec 27, 2010

This note is just a small way for me to say thank you. Your donation to my classroom is tremendously appreciated. The carpet is large enough for all of my students to sit on. They come up closer to our interactive whiteboard for whole class lessons. It is also a nice addition to the room when students are working independently or in centers because it allows them the freedom to move around the room and learn comfortably in a place away from their desks.

A classroom rug may seem like an insignificant item, but it truly is a necessity for developmentally appropriate learning at the primary age. The rug has made everyday instruction simplistic.

Your donations and support to classrooms are encouraging to staff, students, and parents. I appreciate your support.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Parsh

  • Recording To Think And Learn!

    Funded Nov 28, 2010

My school loves to put students in the spotlight. We have weekly community meetings and trimester Student Led Conferences. Your donation will allow us to video tape students when they are presenting to their peers and their parents and guardians.

The students are very excited to be on camera, and I am excited to be able to collect evidence on their learning by capturing them in action. Your donations have allowed me to do this.

I can't thank you enough for supporting my classroom and my students and their learning. It is truly appreciated.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Parsh

  • We're Hooked on Great Books!

    Funded Jan 4, 2011

Thank you for your generous donations to our classroom library! From the Fudge series of Judy Blume to the Time Warp Trio exciting adventures, my students have been so excited to read brand new books. As soon as the books arrived, my students were eager to jump into new stories and were begging for more independent reading time.

In the upper elementary years, it's so important to develop a love of reading. Your contributions to our classroom library have made a direct impact on the daily reading that my students are doing. As a new teacher in a Title One school, I did not have the resources on my own to make a classroom library full of new books for my students to enjoy. But with your donations, we now have many new and exciting books in our library. You have greatly helped our class community and will continue to impact future students down the road.

Thank you again for wanting to instill a love of reading within my students. Please know that every smile after a child finishes a new book is directly related to your generosity and kindness shown towards our classroom. Reading is knowledge, and knowledge is power!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Rackers

  • Motivate Magical Mathematicians!

    Funded Dec 2, 2010

Thank you so much for your generous donations to our classroom! My students have been so excited to be reading in our library with our new chairs and playing new games during math centers time. We use the materials that you have donated to our classroom each and every day.

It's so important for students to develop of love of reading and to think of learning as fun. These new books and games have helped my students to be engaged in center activities when I am teaching small groups or differentiating instruction.

When the packages arrived, my students wanted to know more about the people who helped to make this possible for us. So please know that you are deeply appreciated and a part of our school community. Without donors like you, we would not be able to have these materials that make my students excited to learn more and feeling special about themselves. They know that you want them to be super stars!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Rackers
