This is dedicated to my grandmother, Constance Raab Carsten, a teacher for 45 years in the Staten Island school system. Grandma always put her students first.
Let's promote fiberarts by helping these children learn the joy of weaving. Donate what you can, knowing that you'll be helping a dedicated teacher buy a loom and materials for her classroom.
Thanks, gang!
Thank you for your generous donation. The "Friendly Loom" was a valuable tool for teaching dexterity and cooperation with my community of students. I used the loom with my 1st grade students as an extension to a lesson about LINE. Students viewed Navajo blankets and were introduced to weaving using thick and thin weaving materials to create a community blanket. Six children worked at a time in rotating groups for five, 1st grade classes. This loom provided motivation to learn social skills, craftsmanship, and math. The older children are looking forward to their weaving experience.
Thank you so much for your generous donation to my proposal for weaving materials and resources - I was absolutely overjoyed to hear the good news this morning that my application has been fully funded! Gosh, what a wonderful way to take me and my class into 2009!
My class has been weaving with paper and photographs and some natural materials since the academic year started, so we are now fully conversant with the basic skills and language of weaving - your gift has come with perfect timing to take us into a more advanced knowledge and understanding of this fascinating subject area that we are enjoying tremendously.
Once again, many thanks for your support. I wish you a happy, healthy, and prosperous 2009.
Thank you so much for donating funds to provide yarn, looms, needles and beads for our weaving project. I am so excited to tell the students about the fantastic project they will have the opportunity to create. I know they will be excited too! We appreciate your generosity and support of the arts. I look forward to beginning our artistic adventure”

This classroom project was brought to life by Harold Simmons Foundation and 7 other donors.
I almost gave up. I thought that this sinking economy would make this appeal impossible. Wow! I can't wait to get the students started with using these materials. The timing couldn't be more perfect. We have just started weaving paper strips and making box patterns, so the kids have a basic understanding about warps and wefts - now they'll be able to string a loom! Fantastic. Thank you and have a wonderful holiday season. Thank you”
Thank you so very much for funding our project! I was thrilled to find that this project had been funded for our students. The weaving learning center will give students an awesome opportunity to learn a new skill, and it will also enable them to create pieces of artwork by working together in a cooperative setting.
We so appreciate your generosity and kindness. Please know that every little bit helps at our school, and it is wonderful to have people like you supporting us!
Thank you!
Sincerely,
Laur”
