It is with mixed emotions that I am participating in Mustaches for Kids. That's right, for the next four weeks, I will be subjecting myself to private doubt by re-starting the growing of my ridiculously good looking Mustache. In order to justify this endeavor I need your support. Please sponsor my Mustache by picking a classroom project from the list below to support. And wish me and my Mustache luck. • Analysis Of Bacteria In Aquatic And Terrestrial Ecosystems

    Funded Apr 21, 2010

Your donation has allowed me to carry out the project I described in my request letter. I have never been able to do this project before due to lack of funds.

We are going to use the bacteria that we collected in future projects. We are going to study the different bacteria using staining techniques and colony morphology. These are concepts that I have always planned to teach but never had the resources available.

By getting out into the natural environment to study the bacteria at the beginning of the school year more students have already become interested in environmental science than in past years. Thank you very much for helping bring this positive change about.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. HEWITT

This classroom project was brought to life by Pershing Square and 2 other donors.
  • Literacy & History Rolled Into One...Help Needed!!!

    Funded Feb 10, 2010

This project could not have been funded at a better time!! In Social Science, we have been studying Black history month, Abrahamn Lincoln, George Washington, and Martin Luther King, Jr. When I opened up that box and showed my students the autobiography books and tapes they were so excited. I set up my listening station and my students were fighting to get to that station. One of my students who has a very short attention span and is always all over the place, sat there and did not want to get up from that station. He was so excited to learn about Martin Luther King, Jr and listen to the tape. He ran over to me after his time at the station was over and started telling me everything he heard on the tape. His eyes were gleaming with excitement and it was such a joy to see how literature can impact a student's life.

The Literacy boxes have had a great impact on my student's learning. Most of my students have been having a hard time with the concept of rhyming. One of the Literacy boxes has a rhyming component with hands-on manipulative's for students to match with the appropriate rhyming picture card. It took a couple of days, but I started seeing progress in their concept of rhyme faster than I would have without having a fun, hands-on learning game for my students to become absorbed in.

Kindergarten students are very visual, hands-on, and auditory learners. Thank you for donating supplies that enrich the different learning styles in my classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Armstrong
