The thanks I can express in these few words are but a crude translation of the joy apparent in my students when their learning comes alive on these musical instruments, joy made possible by your generosity.

No words can fully describe such a feeling - the moment when one's authorship is realized in creation - and my young students do not yet possess the literary tools to even begin such an endeavor. But if I, for all my limitations, can paint for you a picture of their faces, how their eyes light up when they recognize the tune of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star produced by their own fingers as though they had composed a symphonic masterpiece, then perhaps you may come to realize the powerful role you have played in a child's life.

Your gifts have done more than educate, they have illuminated young spirits and kindled in them the flame of creative independence. I humbly thank you for entrusting me with the means to so inspire deserving young people. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Horton

  • Learning Smart With Art

    Funded Sep 14, 2010

When I unpacked the boxes with the art supplies, I was thinking of all the projects I could have my students work on. They helped me put all the supplies away and were anxious to use them. They even had many suggestions of things they would like to work on.

The supplies arrived just in time for us to use for our human body projects. We have also used many of the supplies for Christmas ornaments. The paint, wiggle eyes, glitter, glue, crayon sharpener, paper fasteners, pipe cleaners, markers, and pompoms have already been used. These supplies will last for years to come and will be used by many children.

My students have been amazed by the generosity of the donors at Donor's Choose. They always ask if the materials we use are the ones supplied by you. Each and every time we use the supplies we will be thinking of all of you and your kindness. Thank you all very much for your help in making our school year brighter and more artistic. ”

  • Bring Music to Life with Handbells

    Funded Aug 31, 2010

Thank you so much for your donation to this project. My students were so excited when I told them that they now have enough hand bells for everyone in the class to have a chance to play! Students in fourth grade have already used the hand bells extensively in a unit on the notes of the scale. One of my fourth grade classes played "America" on hand bells at our school's veterans day program in November.

My students in first and second grade will use the hand bells in the upcoming months when they learn about the notes of the scale and solfege. They are always very excited when they get to play instruments in my class and now they will have enough so they can all play at once!

Thanks again for your generous contribution to this project! You are helping to bring music alive for my students!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Ribelin

  • It's Carnival Time! Mardi Gras Coconuts

    Funded Aug 31, 2010

Words cannot express our feeling of gratitude for your sincere generosity. The materials you donated have allowed this project to come to fruition. The students had the opportunity to create a treasured piece of New Orlean's history and culture. Also, the drawing paper, markers, colored pencils, aprons, craft accessories and paint brushes that were donated are all welcomed and vital tools to create other types of art.

Through art, all students have a need to be creative and expressive. Unfortunately the resources needed to provide this expression can be very expensive, whether it is for a class of 30 or for a school of over 400 students. The reality is that the Arts in general have been seen as subjects that are not needed any more in the school setting.

This is why people like you are so important. Your kind gestures prove that there are those who believe in the Arts and the significant roles they play in molding a student.

  • Creating The Axe: The Power Of Music In Capoeira

    Funded Jul 21, 2010

I deeply appreciate the generous donation of tambourines to my classroom. With your support, I've created a positive learning environment that is very lively, yet promotes both leadership and creativity. The tambourines have made my class a lot of fun and has encouraged many of my students to learn more about capoeira and music.

Without your help, my students would never experience the magical power of music in capoeira and discover musician within them. Thanks for helping me inspire my students to learn.”

  • Art and Science: Integrating Interesting Projects!

    Funded Jul 17, 2010

I want to thank you for your generous funding of our Art and Science projects this year! Because of you, many different grade levels are able to engage in exciting and new projects that truly enrich their education.

In the fall, our fifth grade students were involved in a volcano unit. The students learned about volcanoes, and then worked in pairs to build their own. We started with a plywood base, and then added a water bottle, newspaper, cardboard, plaster, and paint. In the end, the students were able to use vinegar, food coloring, and baking soda to make their volcanoes erupt! Even more fun, the fifth grade students invited the kindergarten students to watch their volcanoes explode, so our younger students were also able to participate in the science experiment!

Fifth grade is currently in the middle of our owl unit. The two fifth grade classes have just completed their oil pastel drawings, and we are beginning the owl pellet dissections this week! The fifth graders are both apprehensive and excited about the dissection. It is DEFINITELY a new experience for them, and one that they would not have had without your help!

We have not yet begun our butterfly unit, but the second graders are very excited for the unit to take place. I explained to them how they are each going to watch their own caterpillar grow into a butterfly, and they were amazed and excited!

I want you to know that your gift is impacting hundreds of students at our primary school. You have contributed to projects that will add to their learning in a positive way and help them to grow as individuals. I am truly thankful for your kindness, and please know we are so appreciative of your donations!”

  • We Must be Heard!!!

    Funded Aug 31, 2010

I can't thank you enough for your kind generosity in funding our classes project.  At the end of the previous school year many of our students (as well as administration) commented on our lack of amplifying voices during concerts.  Our previous "soloist" microphone was an early 1970's EV mic.  NOT exactly a game changing microphone.  However, with your kindness the Shure SM58's have transformed our concerts from summaries of student success to HUGE communal sharing of arts and creativity.  Our Winter concert was a huge success this year and it was excellent to balance choral singing and share the individual and unique talents of several students.  Also as an aside, we have been using the microphones during classroom instruction on a weekly basis to record and evaluate our rehearsals.  This has completely changed my effectiveness a teacher and I owe it to you.  Have a wonderful holiday season and thank you for the bottom of my heart.”

    Mr. Lucini

  • ScientARTists! Science and Art Integration in 4th grade!!!

    Funded Aug 20, 2010

I am writing to you to thank you for your support of my "Scientartists!" project, and to let you know of the success my students and I have experienced while implementing the project this school year.

Each student received a scientartist journal in which he or she makes observations, develops hypotheses, and evaluates results. Weaved into these science activities, we have also addressed Visual and Performing Arts standards such as using the value scale as we sketch to show shadow and dimensionality.

The students love putting on their lab coats when science/art gets messy- like when we used charcoal for sketching, or when we made "mock rocks" out of flour, salt, food coloring and water.

The kids always ask me if they are going to get to take home their science journals at the end of the year and when I tell them that they will, they give an enthusiastic "yes!"

Thank you so much. Look out for a scientartist project from me again next year! It was a hit!”

    Ms. Ramos

  • Jazzing Up Our School!

    Funded Sep 8, 2010

It is with deepest gratitude that I am writing this letter. The students at our school, for the first time in many years, have a band in which they can learn and express themselves through music. As they begin to learn more about their instruments, they'll have the ability to express themselves through music in a jazz band! On behalf of my students and my school I thank you for giving them this opportunity!

Your donations towards two new trombones and a flute have completed our instrumentation and given us the gift of music! We now meet weekly for full rehearsals and the students have opportunities to practice every morning. We are now excitedly awaiting our first performance which is being planned as we speak!

Once again, thank you for giving our students something to be excited about, it's a pleasure to know people like you are out there and willing to help make life better for people you've never even met.”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher

  • The Story of Our Lives: Teens Autobiographical Writing

    Funded Jul 23, 2010

It has been a great first half of the school year because of your generosity. My students have enjoyed using the supplies and Art Cart this school year. They are working very hard on their altered autobiographies. Each story the student writes about their life is also being told through pictures, collages and other unique artistic ways. The cart has helped us stay organized and therefore able to enjoy the autobiography process even more.

As a teacher, I cannot always do the bigger projects due to lack of funds and it makes the days a little less interesting for my students. With your help my students have enjoyed their learning in a hands-on way. I cannot thank you enough for your contributions to my project. It has made a world of difference.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Barsamian
