  • Cirque Du Freak and Other Mad Books to Get Students Reading

    Funded Nov 17, 2008

Thank you so much for helping to fund this project. I know that these books will help keep students invested in their reading growth through the spring semester. The ELA state test is in January, and it's essential that students are invested in a goal beyond the test so that their academic performance continues to improve. These books will definitely help keep kids on the right track. Thanks for your support”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. R.

  • Performing Centerstage: Extraordinary Women in History

    Funded Dec 16, 2008

Thank you for choosing my proposal, "Performing Center Stage: Extraordinary Women in History" proposal. I was delighted to learn that these books will soon be supplementing my curriculum with womens' studies. Having these texts will allow the students to study another group from a historical perspective, and will complement our Native American and Slavery units. In addition, these texts present an opportunity for the students to utilize an educational resource that makes history fun and exciting to learn! My students love to learn through interactive experiences and being allowed to perform will engage them and make the material more meaningful and easier to retain.

In addition, thank you for funding the teacher's copy of "Making Sense of History." This text will permit me to utilize the plays as integral part of units that will make the students excited about people and events in the past.

Your generosity has funded books that will have a meaningful impact on my students' interest in history and their retention of the curriculum. More importantly, you are providing me with a valuable resource that will be used for years to come. Again, thank you for choosing my project and benefiting my students”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. O.

  • High-Interest Books for African American Boys

    Funded Dec 9, 2008

Thank you so much for funding this all-important project. I know that my students- particularly my male students- will be so appreciative. Just this week many of them were asking for "better books," and so this project has made that possible! I know from reading many of these that, not only are these books of high interest to this age group and demographic, they are also books that teach great lessons, and to which many of my students can relate.

I can't tell you how appreciative I am that my students will now have books that I know they will want to read!

    Sincerely,

    Ms. ”

  • African Student Struggling To Learn English In America

    Funded Mar 5, 2009

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.  I really appreciate your generosity.  I know that your gift will deeply impact the students in my class.  I am so happy to know that there are still people who care.  Although my students are eager to learn, resources are often limited.  As a result, I am often seeking new ways to do more with less.  Your gift will truly help me to do more.

My second language learners and struggling readers will benefit from the materials especially when they learn that the materials were bought especially for them.  The photo cards will help to build vocabulary, the big books will help with reading and writing!  I am so excited and I know my students will be too!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. T.

  • The Lost Boys Connection

    Funded Jan 12, 2009

Thank you very much for funding my proposal! My students have just finished preparing for the NYS Regents and are very excited to read and reflect on modern text instead of test prep. As a teacher in Harlem, New York I have many students who are immigrants and who can identify and connect with the themes presented in "What is the What." As a teacher I wanted to reiterate your importance not only for me but for the 200+ students who will be impacted by your generous donations. Thank You again”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher

  • Gatsby Goes to Harlem

    Funded Oct 9, 2008

Wow! These books will come at such a needed time for me! For the first month of school I have photocopied chapters of books so that my students had something to read! It's sad to think that my students' access to literature is subject to the generosity of others. Yet, it is just as inspiring as it is unfortunate because this shows my students that people care about them and their success. I wholeheartedly thank you on behalf of my students. This book will change their perspective on reading”
