The students were so excited to come back to school this year and to find the new recess equipment you helped to provide. The younger students are really getting a workout with the ball hops and are excited to have a kickball that doesn't keep going flat. The older students really enjoy the Omnikin football. It's a recess activity they don't have anywhere else and it has helped them to learn to get along and solve problems on their own. Most of all the bags are great for transporting the equipment downstairs to our playground.”
Words can not express how truly grateful I am for your generosity. Our materials were recently delivered and we were able to open our "Eagle's Nest Cafe and Cart" last week. The students have been working hard to make this a success.
The skills that my students are able to practice because of these resources are extensive. Students are taking inventory. They are preparing the coffee. The students are serving the customers using appropriate social skills. They are cleaning up and washing dishes and they are counting the money. All of these skills will serve them well in the future as they continue to work toward increased independence.
Through the efforts of our staff, our families, and the wonderful donors at donorschoose, this project has become a reality! Thank you again from all of us at the Eagle's Nest Cafe and Cart.”
I feel like writing a letter just isn't enough to express my gratitude for your generous donations to our classroom project. When it comes to teaching heredity and genetics, I have found no better way to sum up the difficult concepts that the students are required to learn. This year we used the Crazy Traits creatures as a culmination activity asking the students to write about why their creature--as compared with the other students' creatures--would be better suited for the given environment. We then played a few quick games of Adaptation Survivor.
In the game of Adaptation Survivor students are given a scenario about a particular environment and must explain why that scenario would be either a good or a bad place for their creature to live. Because of the interpretation skills needed to complete this activity, having an actual model of the creature that they can see and touch is extremely beneficial.
Our school district is currently facing a budget shortfall, so without your help, my students would have never gotten to use these fantastic resources. For 7th grade students I can think of no better way to help them understand such a difficult concept!
Thank you again for your generous donation. Our classroom will be a better place because of donors like you.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Waldhauser
